The statement about "ground" is that the samadhi with limbs is said to be an easy path. Because it is easy, it is very easy to understand. If someone asks: How can that which has afflictions be dhyana? If the samadhi with virtuous limbs is dhyana, then how can that which has afflictions similar to tasting flavors be called dhyana? This is a superfluous statement. Because there are three kinds of dhyana: similar to tasting flavors, pure, and without outflows. Because of wrong conceptualization. The so-called "because of wrong conceptualization" is synonymous with "because of wrong conceptualization of thinking." The so-called "it will be too extreme" means that even a mind entangled by desire and attachment also engages in wrong conceptualization of thinking, so will it be too extreme? No, it is only similar to it. To explain in detail, it will not be too extreme in that way, it is only similar to it, having a single characteristic, many attributes, and no inconsistent afflictions, that is named dhyana, just like a rotten seed. For example, some things that are not seeds, such as stones, cannot be called rotten seeds because their kind and characteristics are very different. Then, what is it? Only when the kind of the seed itself deteriorates can it be named a rotten seed, just like dhyana. It is also said that unwholesome dhyanas, entangled by desire and attachment, are taken as internal, and then thought about, repeatedly thought about, this is a detailed explanation. This shows that even if one is entangled by desire and attachment, it is still dhyana itself, so there is no fault. The so-called "like smoke and fire," for example, because there is smoke here, so smoke is mentioned, and fire is also mentioned. Because without fire there would be no smoke, so they exist together. It is precisely because it does not arise without it that smoke is the main thing. Where there is smoke, there is fire, but where there is fire, there is not necessarily smoke. For example, when melting iron and firewood, there is only fire, not smoke. Therefore, smoke is the main thing.

Again, as previously mentioned, it is like the god of wealth and governing affairs. If it is not like that, then the sound of "fire" will appear as previously mentioned. Also, like acting together, if there is no distinction, there is no observation with joy and happiness, so it is said. Just as the observation of special meditation does not have joy and happiness, and there is no distinction, this observation is not like that. Therefore, because it is said that observation is with joy and happiness, showing it together with joy and happiness, this observation is particularly emphasized. The first dhyana is a summary word that is with observation with joy and happiness, and with the same joy and happiness. If it is said briefly, what is the fault of having distinction, joy and happiness? It cannot be done that way, because it will be explained as abandoning the five limbs. If it is said that the second dhyana abandons distinction, then the special dhyana will also become the second dhyana. In addition, after the first dhyana is shown as four limbs, it is said in order: with distinction, with observation, with joy and happiness arising from solitude, the first dhyana is complete and dwells. Therefore, the first dhyana has observation, joy, happiness, and samadhi, because it has these four limbs, and the first thing that is said is distinction, so it is called the fifth limb. The second dhyana also says, without distinction, without observation, with joy and happiness arising from samadhi, the second dhyana is complete and dwells. Among these four limbs, the first limb is abandoning the characteristic of observation. The third dhyana also says: having detached from desire from joy, and abiding in equanimity, in a broad sense, until abiding in happiness, the third dhyana is complete and dwells. The other limbs also abandoned the characteristic of joy. The fourth dhyana also says: also abandoning happiness, in a broad sense, until neither pain nor happiness, having equanimity and completely pure mindfulness, the fourth dhyana is complete and dwells. Therefore, the happiness in the limbs is also abandoned.
