It is accomplished by distinction. What is called 'acquired from birth' refers to what is naturally obtained at the time of birth of all beings, like birds flying in the sky. It is not the case that anything is possible after the time of birth. Therefore, those are born from the distinction of karma. If asked, how is it? Like the three kinds, this is extensively explained. The fruit of cultivation is like what has been said before. What is acquired from birth are gods and so on. What is born from karma is like those Bodhisattvas. In the explanation of the Abhidharma, in the 'Meaningful Illumination' composed by the teacher, the son of the king, named Kirti Mitra, called 'Teaching of Wisdom,' which is the seventh chapter of the Treasury. After the seventh chapter, in order to explain the eighth chapter, which is the explanation of the near placement. By the chapter of consciousness, this is extensively explained. By the chapter of consciousness, the chapter of the ten consciousnesses, contemplating the nature of consciousness, the essence of consciousness, and the consciousness of individual correct knowledge, etc., have been explained. Other natures, such as samadhi, etc., will be discussed. Because it is the basis of all qualities, although the formless is also considered the basis of qualities, it is not the basis of all qualities. Dhyanas are the basis of qualities. Dhyanas are of two kinds, namely the dhyana of cause and the dhyana of result. 'Virtuous one-pointedness' means the one-pointedness of virtuous minds. 'Without distinction' means that this is also the characteristic of all dhyanas. Therefore, it is said, because it is the nature of samadhi. Dhyanas, etc., are redundant words. Or 'without distinction' means that only samadhi is mentioned. If distinguished, with followers, the five aggregates. This is to say that here the form aggregate refers to non-discriminating form. 'Object of focus is unique' means that the object of focus of minds is unique. Moreover, the object of focus of all minds and mental factors is also unique.

Then, why is it said that "the object of minds is only one"? Why not say "mind and mental factors"? Because the mind is the main one. Saying "only single-pointedness of mind is samadhi" is because it is a temporary difference, just like the qualities and nature of the mind. The Vaibhashikas say: Only minds are not samadhi, but the dharma that makes them focused and equally abiding is samadhi. For example, the Lokayatas believe that because it has the quality of white, the cloth is white, and the one who possesses that quality is white, just like that. Since it is not momentary, isn't all mind focused? Why say "the dharma that makes them focused is samadhi"? If it is said that the second consciousness will not be distracted from that object. If you think so, if you think that the second consciousness will not be distracted from the object through that samadhi, then for the co-emergent, samadhi becomes meaningless. The first consciousness is co-emergent with samadhi, for that co-emergent, samadhi is meaningless, because samadhi does not act on it, but acts on the second consciousness. Furthermore, why not think that from the only cause that is the characteristic of the single-pointedness of samadhi, the object of consciousness is also only one? What is the use of thinking that samadhi has become another function? No, because samadhi is weak. Because samadhi has many grounds, it will not lead to all consciousness being single-pointed. Which mind is co-emergent with the weak samadhi, it is not single-pointed, and which mind is co-emergent with the strong samadhi, it is single-pointed, so even if samadhi has many grounds, it will not lead to all consciousness being single-pointed. Single-pointedness of mind, etc., are explained in detail, single-pointedness of mind is samadhi, but it is not if it becomes another function.

Thus, the sutra says, "The higher training in mind" refers to what higher training in mind? It is the four dhyanas. Thus it says everything, and similarly, the main thing for the complete purification of mind is only the four dhyanas. This sutra is written in the "Supernatural Power Samadhi." Just as the higher training in discipline is only discipline itself, not other than that; the higher training in wisdom is also only wisdom itself, not other than that; similarly, the higher training in mind is also only mind itself, not other than that, therefore there is no samadhi other than mind, this is the final conclusion. The higher training in mind is considered to be different from samadhi. Also, just as in that same sutra it says "the main thing for the complete purification of discipline," "the main thing for the complete purification of view," "the main thing for the complete purification of liberation," among them the complete purification of discipline is not other than discipline, similarly, the complete purification of view and the complete purification of liberation are also not other than those, similarly, the complete purification of mind is also not other than mind, because the complete purification of mind is the samadhi characterized by the four dhyanas. If that is the case, then, if the dhyanas are the nature of samadhi, then all samadhi will become dhyanas. Virtuous, afflicted, and indeterminate samadhi will also become dhyanas, because samadhi is multi-layered. No, the one with excellence and perfection is called (dhyana), like the sun. For example, that which can excellently appear is the sun, fireflies etc. are not, it is like that. That, refers to the samadhi with limbs, like the union of calm abiding and insight, like horses yoked together pulling a cart, it naturally occurs in union. Therefore, the sutra says "dwelling in bliss in the seen dharma." The easy path
