"Turning away from the earth" means turning away from the realm of that mind, remembering other states that have just ceased. "One can also remember transcendentally" means that one can remember even after transcending one life or sleep. "How are the pure abodes remembered?" means if one only remembers what one has previously experienced. The pure abodes do not come here because they are non-returners. Therefore, there is no experience of them here. Nor is it there, because ordinary beings are not born there. "Because of experiencing through hearing" means that one knows that the gods of the pure abodes are like this because of hearing. There are two kinds of experience: experiencing through seeing and experiencing through hearing. "Arising dependent on the continuum of others" means that the knowledge of remembering previous abodes is encompassed by meditative concentration, so if it does not grasp the mind that is practiced in the formless realm, then how does it arise dependent on the continuum of others? It is explained in detail as: grasping the sign of the consciousness of the mind of others that has just ceased. "Others" refers to those who have not died and transmigrated from the formless realm, their knowledge of remembering previous abodes arises dependent on their own continuum, because it is easy. "Miraculous powers, etc." refers to the three kinds of superknowledge of miraculous powers, divine ear, and divine eye. In order, the application of miraculous powers is to contemplate lightness, the application of divine ear is to contemplate sound, and the application of divine eye is to contemplate appearance. "How are these obtained?" means asking in terms of obtaining, manifesting is through both familiarity and unfamiliarity, and it is only through application. "The unfamiliar ones are through application" refers to the differentiated ones, that is, all that has not arisen before. "Everything is also generated through application" means those that are obtained through detachment from desire, and those that are obtained through application, all refer to these. "Except for sound" means that sound does not transform because it is intermittent, because it belongs to the realm of desire.

The aggregates are said to be the four external sources. So, what is "if"? The extensive explanation is that if the object of the eye's direct perception is the source of form, then how can one know that these sentient beings possess evil deeds of the body, etc., through the knowledge of death and birth? Because eye consciousness does not grasp the deeds of speech and mind. The word "etc." includes wrong views. "That cannot be known by it" means that the deeds of speech and mind, etc., cannot be known by eye consciousness. So, by whom is it known? It is said, "Other consciousness that has become the retinue of direct perception," which is synonymous with "is of the mind." "The remainder" refers to the direct perceptions of past lives and the exhaustion of defilements, etc., which are all of the nature of the four mindfulnesses. How is the direct perception of the exhaustion of defilements the nature of the four mindfulnesses? Because it is the nature of the ten consciousnesses. Even if it is the nature of the six consciousnesses, one can still obtain the future mindfulnesses of body, feeling, and mind. So, how do these become established in the fourth dhyana realm? That is, the realms of eye consciousness and ear consciousness, as well as the second dhyana, etc., do not exist, because they are not in accordance with eye and ear consciousness. These are also not present in the second dhyana, etc., because in the second dhyana, etc., the consciousnesses of body, eye, and ear arise separately, and whatever these are belong to the first dhyana, thus there is a difference. "Dependent on the support" is explained extensively as follows: dependent on the support of the eye and ear, their consciousnesses are also of the fourth dhyana realm, and the eye and ear are established in the fourth dhyana realm. "This is to show the main or the majority" means that because it is the main, it is the main, and the majority is also the same. Direct perception is virtuous, because it is the main, therefore, relying on this, the ten direct perceptions are shown as wisdom-virtuous. Or, the majority of direct perceptions are virtuous, therefore it is shown in this way, even though there are Mon gods, etc.
