If the attainment of afflictions is severed, in order to attain one's own attainment, virtues, like breaths, the attainment of those most cultivated will arise, this is a summary word. If one attains Arhatship in the desire realm, then according to the circumstances, the three realms of phenomena arising from listening, thinking, and meditating on impurity, etc., can be attained. If one attains Arhatship in the form and formless realms, then in order, the phenomena of the two realms and the three realms can be attained. Similarly, it should also be understood from the perspective of the ground. If a being born in the realm of neither perception nor non-perception attains Arhatship, then it should be understood that only the qualities of that ground can be attained. As for the extensive explanation of "whatever there are," the teacher says that whatever is familiar in samsara, regained from decline and realized, will not be attained in the future, because the attainment in samsara has been abandoned. This shows that once special phenomena such as meditation and immeasurables, which are unfamiliar in samsara and correspond to non-self, are manifested, only phenomena corresponding to them will be attained in the future. Teacher Samantabhadra also explained the same principle, that what has already been attained will not be attained again. What is regained from decline will also not be attained. It implies that what has not been attained before can be attained because of the effort to realize it. If the continuum of the path is not interrupted, then by striving to realize it, the power generated by it is also strong, so it can be attained in the future. If the continuum has been interrupted before, then because the attainment has interrupted the continuum, it will manifest without effort, because the action has been done and the result has already arisen, the power is weakened, so even if it manifests, it will not be attained in the future. But if what is generated by effort in the future can be attained, this is what is thought. If that is the case, then for the time being, the extensive explanation of "mundane knowledge is," etc., should be understood as being possessed only by the continuum of the noble ones, because it is not familiar in samsara. Here is what was written by Teacher Vasubandhu: On this, the Vaibhashikas say, the situation is not like that. Why? Because it has been abandoned like this, so this is unattained. Therefore, it is the abandonment of attainment.

It is said that some say, "What I will obtain later will only be what is obtained." What does this mean? How can it be something that was not there before? To say "previously obtained" in this way is not to say that it was not there before in the world. Others say that this is said in terms of one lifetime, not in terms of other lifetimes. Because in this life alone, whatever is re-obtained from complete decay will not be obtained, because the obtaining has been abandoned. Whatever is obtained in other lifetimes will be obtained, because obtaining causes one to forget. It is said that "obtaining is of four kinds," because obtaining itself is obtaining, therefore, obtaining is obtaining, that is, future obtaining itself is obtaining. Similarly, it should be said that closeness itself, the antidote itself, and continuation itself are all obtaining. What is closeness? What is the limit of continuation? Closeness is manifesting again and again. The antidote is the path, as it says in the sutra, "Cultivating the body, cultivating the mind," which is the meaning of cultivating the antidote to body and mind. The antidote to the body is the path that leads to detachment from desire from the fourth dhyana. Thus, cultivating the body, cultivating the mind, and cultivating discipline are called monks. How is the body cultivated? The sutra says that for the body, one cultivates detachment from desire, detachment from existence, detachment from cultivation, detachment from joy, and detachment from attachment. Or, the sutra says that the uninterrupted path that exhausts the desire for form leads to detachment from desire. Continuation is cutting off the obtaining of afflictions. The saying "For the future, there is only one" refers to obtaining obtaining. The saying "For the present, there are two" refers to obtaining obtaining and closeness. Therefore, in detail, whether with outflows or without outflows, the obtaining of obtaining and closeness are the accumulation of good. It is said that for those with afflictions and those without afflictions, obtaining the antidote and continuation without distinction are with outflows.
