From the time of obtaining stainless meditative concentration and masculinity, one also obtains, with mundane knowledge, that which is encompassed by the proximity of the second dhyana, from the antidote to the first aspect of the first dhyana, up to the antidote to the eighth aspect. That ground is first obtained at that time. In the ninth liberation path, one also obtains that which is encompassed by mundane knowledge, the actual basis of the future second dhyana. Similarly, from relying on the ground of the special stainless meditative concentration, up to relying on the stainless realm of nothingness, one should connect the attainment of mundane knowledge. "For the sake of abandoning attachment from what" means for the sake of abandoning attachment from which ground. "What is obtained" means which ground is obtained, which is what is obtained. In both of these, one also obtains the next lower stainless knowledge. How is it? In the commentary, it is said that in order to abandon attachment from the higher ground, the word "also" is mentioned. The meaning of the word "also" is not only which ground it is. In the path of application and so on, the word "etcetera" includes the immediate path, the path of liberation, and the special path. There are also two kinds of paths, namely the mundane and the supramundane. Which ground is obtained by abandoning attachment means the higher ground. One will obtain the stainless knowledge of that ground's ground and the lower ground. For example, if one relies on the stainless second dhyana and abandons attachment from the third dhyana, then which ground is the path? It is the ground of the second dhyana, and one also obtains the stainless knowledge of that ground's ground. From the ninth liberation path, from which ground does one abandon attachment? One abandons attachment from three grounds, and one also obtains the stainless knowledge of that ground's ground, the ground of the third dhyana. One also obtains the lower ground, the ground of the first dhyana, as well as the ground of the special dhyana, and the stainless knowledge of the invincible ground. Because the lower ground may also be that path of application and so on, one will obtain it in that way. However, if one relies on the proximity of the third dhyana and abandons attachment from the second dhyana, then there is no interruption.

and the path, approaching the eight paths of liberation, because it is with outflows, therefore one cannot obtain the wisdom without outflows of that ground. Because that is not there. The wisdom without outflows of the lower ground, the ground of the second dhyana, and the ground of the first dhyana, and the ground without obstruction, like that can be obtained. Similarly, it should be applied to others as well. This is an aspect. 'Exhaustion knowledge is also with outflows.' For this, the word 'also' means also without outflows. After becoming an Arhat, whatever manifest virtues with outflows, those can be obtained at that time. 'Immeasurable and liberation, etc.,' the word 'etc.' includes the overcoming abodes and the exhaustion abodes, etc. 'Like cutting the throat and the breath goes out,' means that the throat that is strangled by a rope, after cutting the rope, the breath of the throat goes out, just like that. Because it is said as a metaphor similar to the breath going out. Just like cutting the throat and the breath goes out, similar to that Dharma, just like that throat is strangled by a rope, after cutting the rope the breath goes out, similarly, the Vajra-like Samadhi cuts off the attainment of afflictions, in the continuum of the non-learner, when the virtues such as the impure and so on as mentioned arise, it is like the breath going out. The breath going out is the Dharma of living beings, therefore 'like' is said. Why? 'If one's own mind obtains the great kingship' is said. The king who surpasses all kings is the great kingship. Its nature is that great kingship itself. Because it is free from the other's control of afflictions, therefore in one's own mind is the great kingship, this is a synonym for 'controlling one's own mind.' The Arhat who obtains that, because all virtuous Dharmas are given like gifts, therefore those virtues will be obtained. For example, a king, if a certain king obtains the great kingship, then the people of the country will give gifts such as clothes, etc., this is similar to that. Similarly, afflictions
