If asked, is there anyone who can know all dharmas? The answer is: no. If asked, how is it known? It is said in the sutra: 'Oh, Gautama, we are gathered in this assembly hall, discussing such scattered topics, saying that this ascetic Gautama says that whether it is a renunciant or a Brahmin, there is no one who can know everything and see everything.' If someone says, 'Oh, Gautama, is this true?' The answer is: 'Oh, I remember saying such things. However, whether it is a renunciant or a Brahmin, there is no one who can simultaneously know everything or see everything.' This is recorded in the sutra. Because the object and the subject are different, to explain in detail, the object and the subject, whichever it is, it is not its object. Just as the edge of a sword cannot cut itself, therefore, conventional wisdom cannot grasp its own essence. Because the object is the same, it cannot grasp the simultaneously arising consciousness and mental factors. Because the object of this conventional wisdom is the same as those similar things. If it could grasp those similar things, then, because conventional wisdom and the object are the same, if it were to apprehend its own essence, that would also be unreasonable. Therefore, it cannot grasp those things. Because it is very close, it also cannot grasp those companions that do not arise simultaneously, just as the eye cannot see eye medicine and the stick for applying eye medicine.' This 'it' refers to conventional wisdom. 'Because it focuses on the earth kasina,' it means that, like this, from the conventional wisdom that arises from meditating on operating in form, whether it is the desire realm, or from the first dhyana to the peak of existence, it only focuses on the earth kasina. Why? Because the path of no interruption and the path of liberation sequentially focus on the lower and upper levels, so sequentially: 'The aspects of tranquility, roughness, etc., are the objects of the upper and lower levels.' This is said in the sutra. If it were to focus on all the earth, then it would simultaneously be freed from desire from all things. The objects of the application path and the special path are also only some corresponding earths.

How is it? Whatever is included in the path of application that is in accordance with the decisive aspect, whose object is the desire realm, that is not the other realms; whatever whose object is the others, that is not the desire realm. The objects included in the unattractive, the immeasurable, the mastery-producing spheres, etc., and the refutation and the special path, are only the desire realm, not the other realms. In the first moment of the uncontaminated, one with attachment has one wisdom. The saying "with attachment" means that one without attachment also has the wisdom of knowing others' minds. Saying "three in two" means that the knowledge of the Dharma of suffering is also called Dharma-knowledge, and also called suffering-knowledge. If it is established as two by way of different names, then it has three: Dharma-knowledge, suffering-knowledge, and conventional knowledge. Saying "in four" refers to the moment of subsequent knowledge of suffering, and the moments of Dharma-knowledge of origin, cessation, and path. For those in forbearance, it is the same as before. In the moment of subsequent knowledge of suffering, only subsequent knowledge increases, not Dharma-knowledge, because they already have it. In the moment of Dharma-knowledge of origin, only knowledge of origin increases, not Dharma and subsequent knowledge, because they already have it. Similarly, for the moments of Dharma-knowledge of cessation and path, it should be said that only knowledge of cessation and path increase. If one is without attachment, then it is said that one especially has the wisdom of knowing others' minds at all times, which means that from the forbearance of Dharma-knowledge of suffering to the moment of Dharma-knowledge of the path, one also has the wisdom of knowing others' minds and those wisdoms as previously described, it should be understood that way. In the moment of subsequent knowledge of the path, if one is not without attachment, then one has those seven. If one is without attachment, then there are eight, that is, one has those and the wisdom of knowing others' minds. Cessation
