The Dharma is the antidote to the desire realm, and subsequent knowledge is the antidote to the higher realms. As it is said in the treatise: What is knowing the Dharma? What is the undefiled knowledge that knows the conditioned phenomena associated with the desire realm; what is the undefiled knowledge that knows the cause of the conditioned phenomena associated with the desire realm; what is the undefiled knowledge that knows the cessation of the conditioned phenomena associated with the desire realm; what is the undefiled knowledge that knows the path that leads to the abandonment of the conditioned phenomena associated with the desire realm, this is called knowing the Dharma. Furthermore, knowing the Dharma and knowing the ground of knowing the Dharma, what is undefiled, that is called knowing the Dharma. What is subsequent knowledge? What is the undefiled knowledge that knows the conditioned phenomena associated with the form and formless realms; what is the undefiled knowledge that knows the cause of the conditioned phenomena associated with the form and formless realms; what is the undefiled knowledge that knows the cessation of the conditioned phenomena associated with the form and formless realms; what is the undefiled knowledge that knows the path that leads to the abandonment of the conditioned phenomena associated with the form and formless realms, this is called subsequent knowledge. Furthermore, subsequent knowledge and knowing the ground of subsequent knowledge, what is undefiled, this is called subsequent knowledge, and so on. Knowing suffering and arising is from the aspect, because there is no difference between the two in the nature of the five aggregates of grasping, so it is not from the object. As it is said in the treatise: What is knowing suffering? What is the undefiled knowledge that considers the five aggregates of grasping as impermanent, suffering, empty, and selfless. What is knowing arising? What is the undefiled knowledge that considers the defiled cause as cause, arising, production, and condition, this is called knowing arising. Knowing cessation and the path is from the aspect and the object, cessation and the path are established from the aspect and the object. As it is said in the treatise: What is knowing cessation? For cessation, with cessation, peace, excellence,

The wisdom of attention arising from cessation, which is without outflows, is called the wisdom of cessation. What is the wisdom of the path? The wisdom of attending to the path with path, reason, practice, and determination, which is without outflows, is called the wisdom of the path. The reason for saying "initially" is to distinguish it from the unarisen wisdom, because the unarisen wisdom arises in the continuum of what has been done. Saying "is the cause of all wisdom without outflows" means that in the case of first generating the ten wisdoms, the unarisen wisdom is the cause of all without outflows with an equal share cause. The wisdom of exhaustion is not the cause of all without outflows, because the unarisen wisdom is more excellent, so it is not the cause. Saying "is the antidote to all" means that the antidote to all five aspects included by what is abandoned by the seeing and meditation of the desire realm, the Dharma wisdom is all that is aimed at the four noble truths included by the path of seeing and meditation, so it is said that the Dharma wisdom is only the antidote to the desire realm. However, Dharma wisdom may also be the antidote to the form and formless realms. What is that? It is the Dharma wisdom for cessation and path. Cessation and path do not belong to the realm, so they are not placed as inferior. The truths of suffering and origin are inferior, so the Dharma wisdom that takes them as objects is not the antidote to the form and formless realms, this should be understood. Mentioning the path of meditation is because what is abandoned by the path of seeing that is practiced in the form and formless realms is to be destroyed by the forbearance of subsequent knowledge. So why is it that subsequent knowledge, which takes cessation and path as its object and is included by the path of meditation, is not the antidote to the three realms? Because it has already overcome the desire realm. Only Dharma wisdom can first overcome the desire realm, and then subsequent knowledge arises after that, therefore, because it has already overcome the desire realm, it is not the antidote to the desire realm, but Dharma wisdom is.
