The so-called "I and so on are also without self" is a synonym for "speaking of things." Saying "and so on" is to include "I" or "Isvara" and so on. The so-called "separately determining the characteristics of the pleasing and the unpleasing" means that the basis of desire to be abandoned by cultivation is the characteristics of hair and teeth, etc., which are ugly, and are pleasing characteristics. The basis of anger is those unlovely characteristics, which are unlovely. The basis of pride is also a pleasing characteristic. The basis of ignorance is also those two, slightly universally obscured. For those to be abandoned by seeing, the so-called "without the characteristics of self and so on" means that for those other than desire and so on, which are aimed at the realm to be abandoned by seeing, the four (self, what belongs to self, pride, self-love) do not have any separately determined characteristics of self. Therefore, it is said "those without a basis," therefore it is said "those without a separately determined basis," that is the meaning. The teacher also extensively spoke of "others," the noble learner, when not attending and not thinking, due to loss of mindfulness, because of having afflicted mindfulness, afflictions such as desire will arise, but not when attending. In some cases of not attending, due to loss of mindfulness, the illusion of a snake arises for a rope, which is the same as not attending. The so-called "view of self and so on," the word "and so on" includes the view of clinging to extremes and so on. Also, why is it that the view of self and so on does not arise when not attending? Because it is a universal attending. Which ones? They are the afflictions of the view of self and so on. Therefore, for the noble one, through the gate of not attending, the view of self and so on does not arise, because there is no cause for complete degeneration, so having abandoned what is to be abandoned by seeing, there is no complete degeneration. The so-called "the state of Arhat also does not degenerate," the word "also" in the sentence not only indicates that having abandoned what is to be abandoned by seeing, there is no complete degeneration, but also indicates that the state of Arhat also does not degenerate. For the non-initial one, once again

The fruits of going and not returning, etc., may be completely lost, because they may be obtained through the worldly path, I think so. "That is the right reason" is the establishment of the doctrine by the teacher. "Monks, whatever is abandoned by noble wisdom, that is abandonment" means that whatever is abandoned by noble wisdom, that is the only abandonment, because what is abandoned by the non-arising worldly path will be reborn, he thinks so. "For those who are learning, be careful," etc., is said in detail, which is the second source of the sutra text that says that the Arhat himself will not be lost. The meaning here is that in order for the learner to be careful, the learner should be careful, which is to show the work of caution. Isn't there also something that is abandoned by noble wisdom for the learner? If so, why is it said that for those who are learning, they should be careful? Like this, he must obtain the difference of the fruit, and for him, there is also abandonment made by the worldly path. Here, the Vaibhashikas say that the sutra says, "Ananda, for the Arhat, gain and respect will also cause obstacles, I say so," therefore the Arhat will also have loss. Therefore, "Ananda, for the Arhat," etc., is said in detail, this sutra only says that it will be lost from the perspective of dwelling happily in the present Dharma. This passage ends here. Fifty-first chapter. How is it? Then, the Blessed One told the Venerable Ananda: "Ananda, for the Arhat, gain and respect will also cause obstacles, I say so." The Venerable Ananda asked: "Blessed One, for what reason do you say, 'Ananda, for the Arhat, gain and respect will also cause obstacles, I say so'?" The Blessed One said: "Ananda, it is not an obstacle to obtain what has not yet been obtained, to realize what has not yet been realized, and to manifest what has not yet been manifested. However, this will hinder the happiness of the present Dharma arising from the increased mind.
