Complete liberation from samsara is the most excellent path that arises naturally, not through deliberate effort. Liberation achieved through accumulating causes in that way is not the most excellent. Because the most excellent path itself has exhausted everything, its subtle aspects are also the most minute. The term "upward transfer" refers to the existence of upward transfer and progression, hence the name upward transfer. The phrase "cultivating meditation and not cultivating" means mixing meditation and not mixing meditation, that is, mixing contaminated and uncontaminated meditation. Here, the phrase "having cultivated all the meditations, completely falling away from the third meditation" is because it is said in the sutra, "First, one cultivates the fourth meditation." Therefore, cultivating meditation is preceded by cultivating the fourth meditation; only the fourth meditation can be cultivated first, not the others. If one has not completely fallen away from the fourth meditation, one will not be born in the first meditation, etc. Therefore, it is said that one completely falls away from the third meditation. How does one completely fall away? The sutra says, "Having tasted the flavor of the first meditation." The phrase "because one does not go the middle way" means because one does not go the middle way. The phrase "leaping halfway," explained in detail, means being born in the Pure Abodes and then surpassing some other places, entering Akanistha. These words should be combined in this way. The phrase "because it is a place of viewing" refers to the fact that even the Great Brahma and the firstborn think of themselves as emanations of the Great Brahma, and therefore become arrogant. The phrase "because there is only one lord," what does it mean? Noble ones are not born among the Great Brahmas. If a noble one were born there, through miraculous power, both would become lords, and then the master would change due to unparalleled power, and therefore would not become competitive. The phrase "in all other places" refers to dying and transferring from among the retinue of Brahma, transferring to the other fourteen places between the Brahma leader, etc., up to the Abundant Manifestation, and then entering Akanistha. The phrase "one born upward, below and now will never return" refers to where one is born, such as

Because after being born in the first dhyana, one will never return to the desire realm below it; similarly, having been born in the realm above, one will never return there either; because one will not remain in the first dhyana forever, one will not be born there again twice, therefore the state of non-returning is perfected. "This is the practice of tranquility" refers to reaching the peak of existence, which is the love of samadhi; because the samadhi of the formless realms is very peaceful, therefore one enters the formless realm. "The former is the practice of insight" refers to what is said to reach the end of Akanistha, which is the love of wisdom; one enters the Pure Abodes. In the middle, there are also detailed descriptions such as "completely liberated from suffering," which are neither written nor prohibited by the authors. Therefore, because it is not prohibited, one can transfer upwards to the end of Akanistha, and to the end of the peak of existence, and one can also be liberated in the middle without entering Akanistha and the peak of existence, one can view it in this way. "Looking at existence" is the meaning of this phrase. If someone asks: Didn't you say the end of Akanistha and the end of the peak of existence? The answer is: The end of Akanistha and the peak of existence themselves are places where one no longer goes further, because there is no realm higher than Akanistha and the peak of existence. For example, if a stream-enterer reaches the extreme, it is like seven times of coming and going, although it is not impossible to be liberated from suffering after experiencing two or three lives, one will not experience an eighth life thereafter, so it is called seven times of coming and going. "There are also four types" refers to the fact that there are no five types because there is no liberation in the intermediate state. "Those are the six types of non-returners" refers to liberation in the intermediate state, liberation after birth, liberation with effort, liberation without effort, upward transfer, and the sixth type of approaching the formless realm, there are a total of four classifications.
