It appears that one should abandon by knowing, one should abandon by knowing according to the path, and the categories of attachment to be abandoned by meditation. The sutra says, 'Monks, in this way, afflictions should be destroyed by wisdom, and the mind is like lightning.' This contradicts what is said in the sutra, because it does not explain the categories of attachment to be abandoned by patience. If you ask, 'It is not so, because patience, etc., are extensively mentioned,' the answer is, 'It is not so.' Why? Because patience is the retinue of wisdom, patience is the retinue of wisdom. Therefore, the categories of attachment to be abandoned by patience can be called abandonment by wisdom. It is like calling it done by the king, just as some things done by the king's retinue are called done by the king. The categories of attachment to be abandoned by meditation are only to be abandoned by wisdom, because the uninterrupted path is also the nature of wisdom. Only the uninterrupted path is particularly relevant to the afflictions to be abandoned. Because of seeing the truth that has not been seen, how does one see the truth that has not been seen when there is wisdom? The answer is: When other truths have not been seen, because it exists between the paths of seeing, the wisdom that exists between the paths of seeing is the path of seeing, and considering the lineage, it also sees the truth through it. Alternatively, because of seeing the unseen by the unseen, the fifteen moments are the path of seeing, and as long as this person's seeing of the unseen begins, then this person's moments are the path of seeing. Although this person has seen suffering, for this person, only the unseen seeing of the unseen begins on the origin, and so on. The sixteenth moment is only the path of meditation, which is quoted from the scriptures. Then, is it not also seeing the unseen? If you ask, 'What is unseen?' The answer is: It is said to be the patience of knowing according to the path. The patience of knowing according to the path takes as its object the path that is in accordance with the category of knowing according to the path, except for oneself, because it is contradictory for oneself to be for oneself.

Therefore, for the forbearance of subsequent knowledge of the path, it is called seeing what has not been seen. To contemplate for the sake of truth, which appears extensively, is it seeing or not seeing the truth? Is the moment of contemplation not seeing, or is it not seeing? This is not the case. Why? Because the fifteenth moment, with the characteristic of conforming to the side of subsequent knowledge, sees the truth, and that very sixteenth moment also sees it. Because the previously unseen truth is not seen, the sixteenth moment is not established as the path of seeing. For the characteristic of the forbearance of subsequent knowledge of the path, not seeing one moment is not the truth of the path that has not been seen. It is said to show a worldly example: for example, not reaping a single stalk of grain is like not reaping and cutting a single stalk of grain with a sickle, and it is not as if the field has not been reaped. What is it then? It is synonymous with merely reaping. Just as, due to negligence, even if a single stalk of grain in the field has not been reaped, one says, "We have reaped the field." Because it is a result, it appears extensively. Because of the reason that it is a result, the sixteenth moment is established as being solely the path of cultivation. The sixteenth moment is the path of cultivation because it is the result of conditioned virtuous conduct, such as the fruit of once-returning or up to the fruit of Arhatship. Similarly, because of obtaining the eight knowledges and sixteen aspects, and because the path of entering the stream is completely extinguished, and because it is continuous, it is solely the path of cultivation, like other fruits. In the sixteenth moment, the eight knowledges from the knowledge of dharma in suffering to the subsequent knowledge of the path can also be obtained, and the sixteen aspects such as impermanence can also be obtained. In the path of seeing, the eight knowledges and sixteen aspects are not obtained in the same way, because in the path of seeing, how do forbearance and knowledge arise? Because it is said to obtain the future, only an equal share of knowledge and aspects is obtained there. For the subsequent knowledge of the path, it is the previous path, that is, the path of entering the stream is completely extinguished.

Yes, the path of seeing does not completely degenerate the previous path. Subsequent knowledge of the path is continuous, but in the path of seeing, there is no endurance or knowledge, even a small amount of continuity, so subsequent knowledge of the path is the path of meditation. Because of being free from attachment, it is refuted. The sixteenth moment is the path of seeing, because it is not devoured by demons and does not completely degenerate, like the forbearance of knowing the Dharma of suffering, etc. Or, refuting the previous view, this view is due to inference, which contradicts the nature of the Dharma itself, so there is a fault, and it must be proved in the path of meditation. If it is said that the nature of its complete non-degeneration is eliminated by inference, then, in order to respond to the doubts of this opponent, the meaning of "complete non-degeneration" is explained in detail. For example, the afflictions that are abandoned by the path of seeing are truly grasped by the subsequent knowledge of the path with the power of the antidote. If it is said that the sixteenth moment of the fruit path will completely degenerate, then the fruit of entering the stream will also completely degenerate. However, the fruit of entering the stream will not degenerate, so it will not completely degenerate from there. The other party said "precisely because of this" because only the reason for complete non-degeneration was stated. We are also saying this principle, if the goals are the same, why should we answer like this? The teacher said that if it is the path of seeing for this reason, then there will be an over-the-top inference. If it becomes the path of seeing because the subsequent knowledge of the path truly grasps what is abandoned by the path of seeing, then there will be an over-the-top inference. For example, starting from the subsequent knowledge of the path, all the paths of meditation truly grasp what is abandoned by the path of seeing, then all the paths will become only the path of seeing.
