is the nature of all dharmas. The Blessed One also said, "Monks, the so-called 'all dharmas' is another name for the four mindfulnesses." Wisdom is thereby endowed with it, and one who is endowed with wisdom observes accordingly, so-called observing accordingly, because one observes accordingly by observing accordingly. If it is the nature of wisdom, then combine the words in this way: because one becomes a person who observes accordingly, therefore one is an observer accordingly, and an observer accordingly is an observation accordingly. Wisdom is thereby endowed with it, and one who is endowed with wisdom observes accordingly. For example, because one is endowed with wisdom, one is called a wise person, similarly, because one is endowed with observation accordingly, one is an observer accordingly. Therefore, wisdom is established as observation accordingly. Therefore, the Blessed One also said, "On the inner body and on the respective inner bodies, one observes the body accordingly, and dwells observing in accordance with the body." Therefore, there are many sayings that observation accordingly is wisdom. How is it? It is argued that one observes accordingly in this. How is it? Because there is observation. Observation accordingly is the characteristic of observation. Therefore, an observer accordingly is a person, like one who holds a stick. Therefore, observing the body accordingly is observing the body accordingly, which is the seventh abbreviation of words. If it is said that because there is a state of observing the body accordingly in this, therefore it is observing the body accordingly, then it should also be observed that this nature is established. The so-called "because mindfulness is increased" is a synonym for "because mindfulness is increased." The so-called "like a carpenter's son holding wood," for example, just as a carpenter's son holds the wood that the carpenter has planed, so too, this wisdom enters the object because of the power of arising mindfulness. The so-called "because it enters by generating the power of mindfulness," generating power is increasing power, that is, generating the power of mindfulness. Because there is entering by generating the power of mindfulness in this, therefore it is the wisdom of entering by generating the power of mindfulness, that is, its nature. Therefore, if mindfulness holds the object, then

If one observes, one will fully understand with wisdom. Thus, the meaning of the Vaibhashikas is that abiding in mindfulness is mindfulness abiding. Saying it this way is acceptable, this refers to the teacher, this is to establish the action. Because of abiding in mindfulness, this is merely a complete exposition of the meaning. The connection of words should be done like this: because it abides by this, it is abiding. Because mindfulness abides, it is mindfulness abiding. Then, how does it abide in mindfulness by this? Just as it is said, because it manifests like seeing. The meaning is that just as wisdom sees things, mindfulness also makes them manifest in the same way, that is, it holds them. Where does it abide? Between the body and all dharmas. Abiding mindfulness on the body is body mindfulness abiding, similarly, abiding mindfulness on all dharmas is all dharmas mindfulness abiding. The mindfulness abiding of self-nature is the same as the related mindfulness abiding, just as wisdom abides mindfulness on the body and so on, similarly, those who possess what corresponds to this also abide mindfulness. Now, the mindfulness abiding spoken of in other sutras does not seem suitable for establishing the action itself, because wanting to express the meaning in other actions, so it is widely said "from where, monks" and so on. Just as the statement of the arising and ceasing of the body, so too should it be said of feelings and so on. How to say it? When contact arises, feeling arises, when contact ceases, feeling ceases. When name and form arise, mind arises, when name and form cease, mind ceases. When attention arises, all dharmas arise, when attention ceases, all dharmas cease. In that sutra, it is only said that mindfulness abiding takes the body, feeling, mind, and dharmas as its objects, because mindfulness abides in the body and so on. Therefore, it shows the establishment of four, regarding this

Because of focusing, it is mindfulness. From the body itself being mindfulness, to the phenomena themselves being mindfulness, therefore it is said to be Dharma mindfulness, thus combining the words. If it is not considered that it is the mindfulness of the object, then the Blessed One would not have said: 'Bhikkhus, how do the mindfulnesses arise and cease?' Because food arises, so the body arises, and when food ceases, so the body ceases.' Saying this extensively would also not be established. If the body and so on are themselves mindfulness, then it can be said that way. Therefore, the body and so on are the mindfulness of the object, thus it is established. The names of these are like the object, that is to say, the names of body mindfulness and so on are dependent on the object, and are established from body mindfulness to Dharma mindfulness. Chapter Forty-Six. Because of focusing on one's own and others' continuums, and both, that is to say, these body mindfulnesses and so on, because of focusing on one's own continuum, and because of focusing on others' continuums, and because of focusing on both continuums, so each is of three types. This is because it appears in the sutra, how does it say? If one has diligence, knowledge, and mindfulness, and abandons greed and displeasure towards the world, then one dwells contemplating the body on the inner body, and dwells contemplating the body on the outer body, and it is the same as before. One dwells contemplating the body on the inner and outer body, and it is the same as before. In this way, for the time being, body mindfulness is of three types. For feeling mindfulness and so on, one also dwells contemplating feeling on the inner feeling, saying this extensively, combining into three types. Because one sees the gross first, that is to say, the body is recognizable by the six consciousnesses, so the third one sees it first. Feeling is the second, because its aspect is gross, so one sees it after that. Dharma
