Therefore, it will not be accomplished. The term "arising from ascertainment by reasoning" means arising from that which has been ascertained and examined by reasoning. The term "for severing distractions and unwholesome thoughts" means that severing distractions is abiding in one place, and therefore it is severed by the body. Severing unwholesome thoughts means abandoning thoughts that are associated with afflictions, and therefore it is severed by the mind. The term "being displeased by obtaining meager or little" is the doctrine of the teachers, and being displeased is simply being displeased. This is a synonym for "not being content and not being satisfied." Because of being displeased by obtaining meager or little, it is not knowing contentment. Desiring more than what is abundant or plentiful is being very greedy. The term "desire is only bad conduct" is because attachment is the nature of unwholesomeness. Rejoicing in renunciation and meditation is rejoicing in cessation and the path. Since this is not the nature of contentment, how can this fourth noble lineage also be the nature of non-attachment? Therefore, it is said, "For turning one's back on existence and desire's attachment." For turning one's back on existence and for turning one's back on desire's attachment, turning one's back is non-attachment. The term "completely abandoning one's own conduct and livelihood" means completely abandoning one's own conduct and completely abandoning the limits of one's own livelihood. Among these, conduct is the livelihood by which one lives, or food and drink, and so forth. The limits of livelihood are farming and crafts, and so forth. The term "because arising and ceasing are such" means that the word "such" is used to indicate the manner of arising and ceasing. Among these, craving for the manner of arising is like, "Alas, what if I were to become an independent one? What if I were to become a wheel-turning monarch?" and so forth. Craving for ceasing is craving for complete ceasing, like, "Alas, what if I were to die?

It shouldn't be. What does it matter if it doesn't exist? What does it matter if it doesn't appear? Entering is the edge from where one enters. "Near to desire" and "very practiced" refer to someone whose desire arises quickly from a small basis, that is, near to desire. Whoever's desire is great, that is very practiced in desire. Because one does not focus on various things, it is because the wind has no color or shape, etc. Because it does not look outward, but inward, this can cut off conceptual thoughts, this is said in conjunction with the context. Because one focuses on its object, it refers to focusing on the object of the eye. Regarding contemplation and other objects of focus, the word "etc." is mentioned to include contemplation of decay, etc. Contemplating worm-eaten refers to where the worms have entered. All four foundations of attachment are absent, referring to the nature of color, shape, touch, and reverence. Because it is faith and temporary attention, it refers to because it is faith-based attention and because it is temporary attention. This is mainly faith-based attention, and this is also temporary, but it is not universal. Impurity refers to not focusing on all five aggregates, or not focusing on all places. What is it then? It is focusing on one aspect of the aggregates, therefore, eliminating afflictions with impurity is not, but it is elimination by suppression. Focusing the mind on the limbs of one's own body is to completely eliminate the cause of desire, temporarily in the stage of practice, it is not focusing on the limbs of a woman. When practicing with bones, it means removing the flesh from the bones and viewing everything as a skeleton of bones, as it is said: Young monks learning, whoever has not arisen in mind, if one wishes to destroy desire, one should go to the charnel ground. Then look at the contemplation of decay, then look at the contemplation of swelling, then
