Although it is unwholesome, it is not independent because it corresponds to desire and so on. Regret is also independent because it corresponds only to ignorance and so on, but it is not solely evil, because it is also good. Ignorance, agitation, and sleep are not independent because they correspond to desire and so on, and they are not solely evil, because those are also good and indeterminate. According to the Vaibhashikas, what is called "which is ten" refers to the ten pervasive fetters. According to that view, anger and concealment are both solely unwholesome and independent, so this is not the answer. So, what is the answer to that? To this, Master Sanghabhadra says that jealousy and stinginess are described as separate pervasive bonds because they repeatedly arise pervasively. For that very reason, although those born in the desire realm have thirty-six pervasive bonds, it is said that the gods and humans of Kauśika are those with the pervasive bonds of jealousy and stinginess, because these two afflictions are particularly binding when they increase. Alternatively, jealousy and stinginess are taught separately because they are known to be the cause of small power and little enjoyment, and because they show everything, and because they afflict both sides. Among those born in happy migrations, the cause of what is greatly despised is jealousy and stinginess, for example, being known as having little power and little enjoyment is like being in prison. There are two kinds of afflictions: those associated with pervasive suffering and those associated with pervasive joy, and all of those are shown by these two. The householder's side is greatly afflicted by these two, which are based on enjoyment, and the renunciant's side is greatly afflicted by these two, which are based on Dharma. Alternatively, the side of gods and demigods is greatly afflicted for the sake of nectar and women. For that very reason, the Blessed One said, the gods and humans of Kauśika

It is said that they are the combination of jealousy and stinginess. Therefore, among the ten pervasive bonds, only these two are considered to be combinations. The so-called "the last realm is the desire realm," the desire realm is not considered equal in relation to the entirety of the three realms, so it is the last, it is inferior. "Cannot transcend desire with two," meaning that if they are not abandoned, one cannot transcend the desire realm. The so-called "because they are gatekeepers, followers, and those who share the Dharma," the gatekeepers and those who share the Dharma refer to craving and hatred for desire, because they do not allow one to emerge from the prison of the desire realm, so they are like gatekeepers. Followers and those who share the Dharma refer to the view of the self, etc., for example, if the gatekeeper becomes lax and the prisoner escapes from the prison, but those who follow the gatekeeper will catch him back, these three are also like that. The so-called "the last of beings" refers to other yogis saying that the combination of the view of the self, adherence to precepts and vows, and doubt, cannot transcend the last of beings, namely ordinary people. The two, craving and hatred, cannot transcend the last of the realm, namely the nature of the desire realm. It should be understood in this way. Among beings, the last are ordinary people, and among realms, the last is the desire realm, therefore it is said that they are in accordance with the last part. The so-called "in order to completely abandon the three combinations" refers to the concluding remarks for completely abandoning the combination of the view of the self, adherence to precepts and vows, and doubt. The so-called "if the six afflictions are abandoned" refers to the five views and doubt. Greed, etc., are not mentioned because there are still remnants. The so-called "abandoning the three views" refers to the view of extremes, wrong views, and the view of holding views as supreme. The so-called "only three are mentioned" refers to the view of the self, adherence to precepts and vows, and doubt, only three are mentioned.
