Because they cause understanding and grasping, they are called "near-grasping." The statement "most excellent" is explained by the teacher as meaning "most excellent." If asked, "How is it 'most excellent'?" The answer is: The continuum of these latent tendencies, which is the continuum of consciousness, flows and moves towards objects, so they are outflows, because they are active. The statement "what should be done manifestly, that is, they are non-existent" means precisely "they are non-existent." The statement "because of possessing great power, they are rivers" indicates that they share the same nature as rivers. Because they are similar to rivers, they are called rivers. The statement "because of following them" means because of following desire, etc. The statement "those that do not always occur are connections" indicates that rivers and connections should be distinguished. Those that always occur are connections, and only those that do not always occur are rivers. How are they connections? It is said, "because of connection with various sufferings," which means connection with various sufferings such as birth. Or, from the aspect of repeated continuity, because they repeatedly connect with the continuum, they are called connections. The statement "because of closely grasping desire, etc., they are close-graspers" means that those who closely grasp desire, etc., are the close-graspers of desire, etc., which is the nature of desire for longing. The statement "those latent tendencies themselves are divided into five kinds by the distinction of pervasive entanglement" means that those latent tendencies that are explained as four kinds by the distinction of outflows, etc., are further divided and explained in the Sutras and Abhidharma into five kinds by the distinction of pervasive bonds, fetters, latent tendencies, near afflictions, and pervasive entanglements. Are there not other pervasive entanglements such as shamelessness besides latent tendencies? How can it be said that latent tendencies are pervasive entanglements? Thus it is said.

In short, although there are different situations from this, it is also considered that there are non-identical situations, because here afflictions are also universally entangled. It is also said in the sutras that the universal entanglement of desire's desire is the cause of suffering, therefore it will be explained. Similarly, others should also be combined according to the situation. The bonds of anger, jealousy, and stinginess arise in desire. The bonds of pride, ignorance, views, grasping, and doubt are in the three realms. The bond of views is the three views, namely the view of the body, the view of extremes, and wrong views. The bond of grasping is two, namely view-grasping and ethics-grasping. Therefore, the reason for saying this is that the three views are the bond of views, and the two graspings are the bond of grasping. The dharmas corresponding to views refer to the questions elaborated in detail, and corresponding to views refers to the dharmas corresponding to grasping views, such as feelings, etc. The bond that follows desire, that is, having desire and being the bond of views, is not characterized by the view of the body, etc., nor is it said that the subtle growth of views in it, nor is it said that the subtle growth of views in the dharmas corresponding to views. So what is it? Will views grow? Use two negations to understand the truth. The saying "there is" is to answer the question asked. The special mention of "arising knowledge of origination" is to show that the universally existing bond of views has been abandoned. The reason for saying "non-arising knowledge of cessation" is to clearly show that if the two grasping views have not been abandoned, then there are dharmas corresponding to them. From "to be abandoned through cessation and the path of seeing" to "all dharmas"

Ra refers to feelings and other aggregates. The fetters that follow these are abandoned by seeing cessation or abandoned by seeing the path. How so? It is because of focusing on them. Because the view of holding views as supreme and holding morality and discipline as supreme, which are abandoned by seeing cessation and the path, focus on those feelings and other dharmas that are associated with them, and craving arises, therefore it is associated with them through the way of focusing. However, it is not associated with the fetter of views. Why not? Because the nature of pervasive suffering and pervasive origin, which are abandoned by seeing the path, is abandoned by the arising of knowledge of origin. For the non-pervasive, the fetter of views that is associated with focusing on it does not exist. The fetter of views that is abandoned by seeing the path, namely the nature of non-pervasive wrong views, exists, but that is because it focuses on the unpolluted dharma, and it does not focus on feelings and other dharmas that are associated with holding views as supreme. Therefore, it is not associated with the fetter of views through the way of focusing. Because the aggregates are different, it is also not associated with those feelings and others, therefore it is not associated with it through the way of association. These subtle increases of views will increase. How are these? The view of holding views as supreme, from the mouth saying "in the way of association," namely, for feelings and other dharmas, the view of holding views as supreme or holding morality and discipline as supreme increases in the way of association, because they arise in their own aggregate. However, the fetter of views does not increase. Why not? Because it is not named the fetter of views. If it is said "subtle increases of views," then it includes all five views. If it is said "fetter of views," then it only takes the view of the aggregates, the view of extremes, and wrong views, and does not include the view of holding views as supreme, this should be understood. The two views are different from the fetters.
