The term "ground" is used to explain other tenets. Its meaning is that, due to the will of the subduer, it is feasible for the combination of views to be explained separately. Why are views not placed separately among the outflows? Because it has been said, "Non-outflows are without companions," and so on. Views without companions are not consistent with placement, and are synonymous with non-compliance with placement. That is to say, because these separate views do not comply with placement, but comply with placement together with companions, these views together with companions are said to be outflows among the outflows, meaning they are spoken of in a mixed way. Why? Because the etymological explanation of outflows is "placement," so it will be explained below. Therefore, I think that the meaning of placement is needed among the outflows. In this way, "the river of desire is twenty-nine things," meaning that because twelve views are removed, it is not forty-one things like outflows. Then what is it? It is twenty-nine things. How is it? That is, all desire, anger, and pride are spoken of. "The river of existence is twenty-eight things," meaning that from the fifty-two things of the outflow of existence, if twenty-four views are removed, it becomes twenty-eight things. "Twenty kinds of desire and pride," meaning that there are ten kinds of desire in the second realm, and there are also ten kinds of pride, so there are twenty kinds. "The river of views is thirty-six things," meaning that there are twelve views in each of the three realms. "The river of ignorance is fifteen things," the same as before. "Combination should also be understood like a river," meaning that the combination of the desire realm is twenty-nine things, namely desire and anger, fifteen kinds of pride, four kinds of doubt, and ten kinds of pervasive attachments. "The combination of existence is twenty-eight, namely twenty kinds of desire and pride, and eight kinds of doubt. The combination of views is thirty-six things. The combination of ignorance is fifteen things. Thus, the two are spoken of.
