No. The saying "It should be proclaimed in this way" means that the Vaibhashikas (Sarvastivadins) have stated the reason why dullness does not arise from that treatise. The saying, "It will not become very fast, but it is not practicing excitement," it is said that they say so. Among them, the word "it is said" indicates disbelief. How can the Dharma of afflictions be in harmony with white Samadhi? Since sinking and excitement are cutting off the path of Samadhi, how can cutting off the path itself be in harmony? The saying, "These will never abandon the nature of acting together," means that these dullness and excitement will never abandon the Dharma nature of acting together at any time. However, the so-called "which is more prevalent to which" means that although it is like this, whichever of dullness or excitement is more prevalent to which person, that person is practicing that, and it should be understood as practicing dullness or practicing excitement. Some Dharmas will become more prevalent in some groups. The so-called "not in other places" refers to goodness and so on. As for unwholesome Dharmas, it refers to shamelessness and lack of shame. The words "shamelessness and lack of shame" should be understood as specifically referring to unwholesome Dharmas, or only unwholesome Dharmas. The so-called "minor afflictive ground Dharmas," where "minor" means small. What does that refer to? Only ignorance, it is said that it is only ignorance itself. The so-called "only ignorance and," means that it is not other afflictions such as desire. The so-called "to be abandoned by cultivation," means that it is not to be abandoned by seeing. The so-called "only the mind ground," means that it is not the five aggregates of consciousness, because these near afflictions such as anger are only the mind ground, therefore they are only in accordance with this, so they are called minor afflictive ground Dharmas. In the collection of desire and so on, there will inevitably be ignorance, so desire and so on are not minor afflictions. In this way, those that occur to all sentient beings are multi-ground Dharmas. Those that only occur to wholesome Dharmas are wholesome multi-ground Dharmas. Those afflictions

Those arising from afflictions and non-virtue are the great ground of afflictions. Those arising only in non-virtue are the great ground of non-virtue. Those arising in minds associated with minor afflictions are the grounds of minor afflictions. These will be explained as part of the near afflictions, according to the *Detailed Exposition*. Others that are indeterminate are those that sometimes arise in virtuous minds, sometimes in non-virtuous minds, and sometimes in neutral minds. Sleep, etc.—the term "etc." includes unpleasantness, yawning, indigestion, and other near afflictions, as well as desire and other afflictions, all of which are categorized as indeterminate. These, such as desire, are not determined to belong to any of the five categories, because they are not present in the minds of all beings, and therefore are not great ground [factors]. They are not present in virtuous minds, and therefore are not great ground [factors] of virtue. They are not present in all afflictions, and therefore are not great ground [factors] of afflictions, because there is no desire in a mind with anger, and no anger in a mind with desire. Similarly, the other afflictions should be spoken of in the same way. Here, Master Vasubandhu summarizes in verse: 'Investigation and discernment, regret, sleep, anger, attachment, intention, and doubt are said to be eight, these eight are not definite.' Thus it is said. To say that eight are indefinite is unreasonable. Why are views not considered indefinite? Because wrong views do not arise in minds with anger or doubt. 'Non-virtue is unmixed, and there are twenty associated with views. Four afflictions with anger, etc., and regret, are twenty-one.' Because it says so. Therefore, it should be seen as explaining views. For now, let's consider it this way. Minds operating in the desire realm are of five types, that is, one is virtuous, and two are non-virtuous, namely, unmixed, associated only with ignorance, and desire.
