If it is known that there are ten different "that," therefore, it is explained in detail that the difference between mind and mental factors lies in their subtlety. The difference between mind and mental factors is difficult to examine even for continuums, let alone the momentary characteristics at the end of time. For the time being, for colored things such as medicines, that is, embodied things, such as haritaki, etc., the difference in the taste of some of the many tastes that can be taken by the senses, that is, the taste that can be taken by the tongue sense, is certainly difficult to determine and difficult to completely distinguish, then what need is there to mention the dharmas that are not colored and can be taken by the mind? Therefore, since this is taught with trust, one should trust it as it is, that is what one thinks. The so-called "faith is the clarity of mind" means that having faith makes the mind clear from the defilements of afflictions and near afflictions, just like a jewel has the function of clarifying water. Others say that it is deep belief in truth, the Three Jewels, karma, and its results. The so-called "deeply believing in truth, the Three Jewels, karma, and its results" means that for the Four Noble Truths, the Three Jewels, good and bad karma, and the desired and undesired results, deeply believing that these are real and deeply realizing that this is faith, it shows that faith has this form. The so-called "non-attachment is the practice of virtue," where "practice" means "obtaining and relying on," because the sutra says "practicing the accumulation of virtue," so virtue is the nature of obtaining and relying on. Then, how does it become non-attachment among mental factors? If there is the practice of obtaining and relying on, then what exists is non-attachment, which is the nature of non-attachment. Therefore, it explains the cherishing attachment to these themselves, so that for the practice that is the cause of practice, establishing it as practice is what has been done. The so-called "guarding the mind" means that with what does one guard the mind from all afflictions, that is non-attachment. The so-called "mind's ability" means that with what does the mind become capable

That is because of the mind's ability to function; it is a synonym for what is called mental pliancy. Isn't it also said in the sutra that the body is extremely pliant? What is the category of the two that become truly enlightened limbs, namely, extreme pliancy? There is extreme pliancy of the body, and there is also extreme pliancy of the mind. Among them, what is extreme pliancy of the body, what is extreme pliancy, what is a true limb of enlightenment, that is also manifest knowledge and perfect enlightenment, and becoming extinguished. What is extreme pliancy of the mind, which are the limbs of enlightenment, that is also manifest knowledge and perfect enlightenment, and becoming extinguished, it appears like this. If so, why is it said that extreme pliancy is the mind's ability to function? If only this one is said? That is to be recognized as the feeling of the body, it is said. Just as feeling arises from the mind, but relies on the root of the nature of the accumulation of fine particles, just as it is called the body, this extreme pliancy should also be understood in the same way. How can it become a limb of enlightenment? The collection of the five consciousnesses is not placed equally, so it is asked. Then, there, only the body is capable, thus extensively speaking, in that sutra, only the body is without fatigue, is the body capable, because the mind is joyful, the body will become extremely pliant, because the characteristic of being led by the appearance of joy. How can it be called a limb of enlightenment? Because it exists in each collection, and because it is tainted, it is thought to be impossible. Like joy and the place of joy, joy is also said to be a true limb of enlightenment, thus extensively speaking, the non-Buddhists said to the hearers of the Blessed One: Your Shramana Gautama said this: O monks, come here, abandon the five hindrances, those hindrances that disturb the mind and weaken wisdom, cultivate the seven limbs of enlightenment, he said.
