If we take the subtle substances of nature and so on as real substances, then saying that they possess eight substances is too little, because some things, according to circumstances, also have other substances, such as shape, lightness, heaviness, softness, roughness, cold, hunger, thirst, and so on. If this is the case, then what is called the eighth substance will become the ninth substance, and even the fourteenth substance, so that the certainty of the eighth substance will be lost. The same should be applied to the ninth substance and so on. Similarly, in the realm of form, it should also be understood that the certainty of the sixth, seventh, and eighth substances will be lost. Why is it said that "it should be said to have four substances"? Because the sutra says that "touch is of two kinds," therefore, the elements such as earth are also the source of touch, therefore, if it is admitted that there is no sound, then it should be said that form, smell, taste, and touch are four substances, and if there is sound, then it is five substances. What is meant by "what is the support" refers to the four elements such as earth. What is meant by "what is supported" refers to one aspect of form, smell, taste, and touch. In this way, since shape is also included in form, and lightness and so on are also touch, it is not right to say that this is too little, and it is also not right to say that it is too much because the support is taken out of the source of touch and shown as four kinds. Therefore, the so-called "the substances of the elements will become many" is a broad statement. The tenets of the Vaibhashikas are that the four elements that are the support of one blue or yellow form that is the cause are not the support of other forms, smells, or tastes that are the cause. What then? Their support is only the other four elements. The so-called "here, the genus is taken as the substance" means that here, the genus of the four great elements is taken as the substance, and the other four great elements will not go beyond the genus of one of the four great elements. Therefore, why bother to explain in detail? Because here, a little bit, only the substance is taken as the substance.

How to grasp? It is those that have become the basis. A little is grasped as the substance of the birthplace, which is what has become the dependent. Those that have become dependent should also be grasped as the same kind. It is said that words enter from the perspective of intention, so the meaning should be examined. This is to say that the words that follow the concise and the extensive are intention, because they enter from the perspective of desire, so the meaning of those should be examined, that is, whether those are necessarily produced simultaneously. Those who practice yoga and contemplate will surely say that those who dwell in the accumulated place are those that have come from arising and change. How is it? It is said that there are also those that arise from one aggregate, such as a dry clod. There are also those that arise from two, such as the same moisture. There are also those that arise from three, such as the same warmth. There are even those that arise from all, such as the state of the clod being moist and warm. For the form that is the cause, it should also be known that on which aggregate, which form that is the cause is perceived, it is there. There are also aggregates that have one form as the cause, such as light. There are also those that have two forms as the cause, such as wind, accompanied by sound and smell. There are also those that have three forms as the cause, such as smoke. That is because it is completely distinguished by the difference of form, smell, and touch. For this, it should be known that the difference of touch is lightness. There are also those that have four forms as the cause, such as the agarwood tree. There are also those that have five forms as the cause, such as the same accompanied by sound. It should be said like this and so on. The rest should also be said, that is, those that do not have mind and mental factors. Mind and mental factors are definitely together. This is to say that the mind must have mental factors to arise, and the mental factors must have mind to arise, it should be determined like this, not all minds.
