It should be understood that all these realms are only with specific distinctions. To explain this distinction, it is mentioned, "There are four gradual deaths." Regarding these, the thought that "each does not cease separately" refers to the fact that in the desire realm, they do not cease separately from each other. "In virtue, there are always five" refers to the fact that, like "in the formless realms, death is with mind, life, and equanimity." Like this, all the ways of death mentioned above are with specific distinctions. The mind of death can be of three types: afflicted, unspecified, and virtuous. Among these, the ways of afflicted and unspecified death have already been explained in a general way. When dying with a virtuous mind, five things such as faith should be added, because these things such as faith are necessarily present in a virtuous mind. Therefore, where three are mentioned, there are eight. Where there are eight, there are thirteen. Where there are ten, there are fifteen. Where there are nine, there are fourteen. Again, where there are eight, there are thirteen. Where there are four, there are nine, and this should be calculated in detail. In the form and formless realms, there is no gradual death. "In the section on faculties, all the dharmas of the faculties should be examined." Some say that what should be done in the section on faculties is to examine all the dharmas of the faculties, that is, the differences in the state of the faculties or the differences in their functions. Others say that the section on faculties refers to examining the dharmas of the faculties from the aggregate of faculties, that is, the differences in state or the differences in function, because this treatise is also concise. "The last two fruits are obtained by nine," which means that what is obtained by the nine faculties is obtained by nine. What are they? They are the last two fruits. What is at the end is the last. The last fruits are the last fruits, that is, those two. Again, what are the last ones? They are the fruits of stream-enterer and arhat, just as a stick has two ends, from among those who are stretched out and abiding

The fruit of entering the stream and the fruit of Arhatship are the lowest. The fruit of once-returner and the fruit of non-returner are intermediate. Those two lowest fruits are obtained only through nine faculties. Which nine? Faith and so forth, and those excluding the faculty of complete knowledge, and the faculties of mind and equanimity, are obtained through these nine, so it is said. In this regard, the order of realization is as follows: the forbearance of the knowledge of dharma in suffering, the knowledge of dharma in suffering, the forbearance of subsequent knowledge in suffering, the subsequent knowledge in suffering, the forbearance of the knowledge of dharma in origination, the knowledge of dharma in origination, the forbearance of subsequent knowledge in origination, the subsequent knowledge in origination, the forbearance of the knowledge of dharma in cessation, the knowledge of dharma in cessation, the forbearance of subsequent knowledge in cessation, the subsequent knowledge in cessation, the forbearance of the knowledge of dharma in the path, the knowledge of dharma in the path, the forbearance of subsequent knowledge in the path, the subsequent knowledge in the path, these sixteen moments are called realization. Among these, fifteen moments are taken out from that: 'Because of seeing the unseen, the path of seeing.' Because it is said thus, the fifteen moments from the forbearance of the knowledge of dharma in suffering to the forbearance of subsequent knowledge in the path are the path of seeing, that is called the faculty of complete knowledge. The sixteenth moment, the subsequent knowledge in the path, is the path of cultivation, and from then on, all the uncontaminated paths up to the vajra-like samadhi are also the path of cultivation, that is called the faculty of complete knowledge. In this regard, the fruit of entering the stream is obtained in the stage of the forbearance of subsequent knowledge in the path. There, the five faculties of faith and so forth undoubtedly exist, because that stage is virtuous. The forbearance of subsequent knowledge in the path, this nature of the faculty of complete knowledge, is present. The faculty of mind is also similarly possessed. Because it relies on the incomparable, the faculty of equanimity also undoubtedly exists.
