Furthermore: Not afflicted, not to be abandoned by seeing; not form, not sixth-born. Thus it is said, seeing is seeing. Non-afflicted is unobscured and indeterminate, and wholesome with outflows, which are not to be abandoned by seeing. Form is afflicted, but not to be abandoned by seeing. Sixth non-born is born from the five aggregates of consciousness; it is not form and is afflicted, but not to be abandoned by seeing. Other than this, as previously stated, is not to be abandoned by seeing. The nature of ordinary beings is non-afflicted and indeterminate, because those who have completely severed the roots of virtue and those who are free from desire also possess it. It is said that those who have completely severed the roots of virtue are considered not to be associated with virtuous dharmas and not to be associated with the nature of ordinary beings. Thus, they are considered to be ordinary beings. Therefore, their nature of ordinary beings is also not virtuous. Those who are free from desire also possess it, so it is also not afflicted, because afflicted things are considered to be abandoned by their very nature, which is the synonym for abandoning the attainment. If the nature of ordinary beings were afflicted, then those who are free from worldly desire would have abandoned its attainment and would not possess it, but they are also considered to possess it. Thus, those who are free from worldly desire are considered to be ordinary beings only. If it is non-afflicted and indeterminate, then there is no fault. Non-afflicted is considered to be abandoning desire and attachment, which is the synonym for severing the attainment of the affliction that is its object. It is not considered to be severing the attainment of its own nature. Thus, the Blessed One said: Monks, abandon whatever desire and attachment you have for form; having abandoned desire and attachment, in that way you have abandoned form, and he spoke extensively. Therefore, their nature of ordinary beings abandons the non-afflicted and indeterminate.

Also, like the eyes and so on, it arises everywhere and at all times, therefore it possesses it. Furthermore, why is it that the characteristic of a common being is not shown in the treatise as being afflicted by defilements, and therefore is not abandoned by seeing, while actions of body and speech are form, and therefore are not abandoned by seeing? Because it is said, "They do not misconceive the truths," the characteristic of a common being is not tainted by defilements, nor is it an object of focus, and therefore they do not misconceive the truths such as suffering. That is, they do not enter into the nature of perversion, which is its definition. Actions of body and speech are also not objects of focus, and therefore they do not misconceive. Thus, neither of them is abandoned by seeing. This reason, "They do not misconceive the truths," should also be compared to those who are not born as the sixth. At the moment of the forbearance of knowledge of the Dharma of suffering, it would also follow that one is a common being. Why is that? This summary of reasons is stated in order to refute that only the characteristic of a common being is abandoned by seeing, because it is not related to actions of body and speech. At the moment of the forbearance of knowledge of the Dharma of suffering, the attainment of the characteristic of a common being is explained, but the path that leads to cessation thoroughly removes its obscurations. Because it is said in this way, it is not already cut off, just like the attainment of the defilements that are to be abandoned by it. By knowing the Dharma of suffering, its attainment is cut off. Therefore, if at the stage of the forbearance of knowledge of the Dharma of suffering, that person would become a common being because its attainment exists, then, since the noble path is attained at that stage, it cannot be established as being a common being. Thus, the definition of a common being is: What is a common being? It is one who has not attained the noble Dharmas. And that non-attainment also reverts after attaining the noble Dharmas, therefore this is only a noble one. For the time being, I will ask you, the Vaibhashikas: Is the characteristic of a common being cultivated?

Is it only through attaining the lower path that one can abandon? Answer: No. The ordinary being itself, from the desire realm to the peak of existence, is the ninth ground, and that is also non-afflicted. Therefore, in order to abandon the ninth aspect of the ordinary being's afflictions, it will be abandoned in a temporary situation, and all defiled non-afflicted things will only be abandoned by the ninth path of liberation. If that is the case, in the state of not being separated from desire, would one become a noble ordinary being? Answer: No. Because the ordinary being itself has already perished. From the moment of the forbearance of knowing the Dharma of suffering onwards, that is only perishing, not abandoning. What is the difference between perishing and abandoning? Perishing is considered to be the loss of attainment. Abandoning is considered to be the attainment of an antidote. Therefore, because of the loss of attainment, one no longer possesses the ordinary being itself, so in that situation, one is only a noble being, not an ordinary being, so there is no fault. The aspect of the eye and the Dharma realm is view, meaning that only the aspect of the eye and the Dharma realm is view, this is what is definitely grasped. The view of the aggregates, etc., means the view of the aggregates and the view of holding to extremes and wrong view and the view of holding views as supreme and the ethics and asceticism of holding as supreme. The undefiled of the learner. Meaning wisdom, it should be combined with the context. The non-learner, meaning the undefiled wisdom of the non-learner is the non-learner. Apart from knowing exhaustion and non-arising, it should be said: Exhaustion and non-arising are not views. It will be explained in this way. With clouds and without clouds. Meaning in detail, worldly ones, afflicted and non-afflicted, and the views of learners and non-learners, those that appear between observing the Dharma with these views are worldly because they exist in the world. Afflicted and non-afflicted are afflicted and non-afflicted. This is both afflicted and non-afflicted, and also worldly.
