It is like that which arises from the earth, like being in an army. Or rather, accumulation itself arises from growth, like arising from discipline. Others say that celibacy also makes the body grow, because those who practice celibacy and whose senses are pacified see the body grow. Therefore, it is said that this is merely not harming, meaning that not practicing celibacy will cause the body to weaken, while practicing celibacy will not cause the body to weaken. Therefore, it is said that celibacy merely does not harm, but it is not growth. Growth is actually dependent on food and so on. Then, why do some renunciants who practice celibacy become weak? That is because they become weak due to being accompanied by complete torment of desire and so on. "Guarding completely in the same way" means that the continuum of growth exists surrounding the continuum of fruition, therefore it is completely guarded. Sound arises from growth, meaning that because one sees that the sound of a body that is not weakened is loud. Because it arises at will, it means that if I want to make a sound, then it will arise, and if I do not want to, then it will not arise. A dharma that arises from fruition arises even if one does not want it. Therefore, sound does not arise from fruition. To this, one should also state the proof, sound does not arise from fruition, because it arises at will, like the mind-born appropriate attention. Whatever arises from fruition does not arise at will, like the eye faculty. Then, what is said in the scriptures about arising from growth, this actually holds a view that contradicts one's own tenet. Some say that this lineage is the third, meaning that arising from growth refers to the accomplishment of the arising of the nature of the fruition of the path of abandoning harsh speech in the throat, and sound arises from these. In the second view, also from actions, the arising of that which arises from fruition is accomplished. From that, that which arises from growth through the means of growth by food or growth by samadhi is accomplished. Those

Actions arise from causes that are in harmony with them, and newly arising things, apart from previous occurrences, are accomplished. Among these, sound is said to be achievable, therefore, sound arises from maturation. Words, too, by abandoning 'pa,' the very sound of Brahma is achievable, which is spoken from the perspective of achieving it through transmission. This completely avoids contradicting the very establishment of that vow. If it were to contradict reason like sound, it means that sound arises as desired, therefore, it contradicts the reason of maturation, so it is said not to arise from maturation. If the feeling of the body also arises as desired like that, then it would not arise from maturation, but it does not arise as desired, like the eyes and so on. Therefore, I think it is permissible to say that it arises from maturation. And what is that like? It is that which arises without initiating the causes of pleasure and pain. Those generated by the co-participating cause and the pervasive cause are those that arise from homogeneous causes, which means that it is definitely held that they are generated only by the co-participating cause and the pervasive cause, and not by the maturation cause. Those generated by the maturation cause are those that arise from maturation, which means that it is definitely held that they are generated only by the maturation cause, and not only by the maturation cause, because those that arise from maturation are also generated by the co-participating cause. Here, too, the eight unobstructed ones are definitely held to arise from homogeneous causes, and only from maturation. Those

They are only those aggregates. Those arising from a common cause and those arising from growth are also those that exist in different faculties. Furthermore, how is it known that even for those that become different from the faculties, there are also those that arise from a common cause? Because it is seen that even death follows after it. It is not desired to consider that which is not counted as a sentient being as being born from maturation. It is necessary to ascertain that only one that possesses substance is the one that possesses substance. Because of being stable, it is called substance, because of being imperishable. One moment does not become one that does not arise from a common cause, because one moment is produced by unequal shares. Because the preceding moment is not of the nature of being without outflows, the meaning of moment is that it is not desired that this moment completely perishes into another moment. If it is not like that, then it must be ascertained that only the last realm is momentary, therefore, the other realms would become non-momentary. Furthermore, how is it that in the collection of the forbearance of knowledge of dharma in suffering, it is not desired that the mind realm and the consciousness realm arise simultaneously, and that two consciousnesses meet? It is not said that those two arise simultaneously. What then? Here, consciousness is established as two realms, and is expressed with two names, this is the term. Therefore, it is said that the mind that is in accordance with the forbearance of knowledge of dharma in suffering is the mind realm and the consciousness realm.
