གས་པའོ། །“The other's exterior” refers to those things that exist in the continuum of others and are not counted as sentient beings. Or, “from the door of the birth place” refers to the five internal sense bases, such as the eye, which exist in the continuum of oneself and others. The other's exterior, namely the five objects such as form, exist in the continuum of oneself and others, are not counted as sentient beings, and because they are the nature of the external birth place, they are also non-manifesting. Gross means having obstruction, because of the accumulation of fine particles. Subtle means without obstruction, which is non-manifesting form. Or, “it is relative” means that it becomes gross and subtle through relativity. For example, relative to a louse, a flea is gross, and relative to a flea, a louse is subtle. Therefore, if it is so, then that which has obstruction is both gross and subtle. But that which is without obstruction is only subtle because it is not accumulated. “Because it is relative, it is not established” means that the tiny louse is gross relative to the dust of sunlight, and that gross louse is subtle relative to a flea and barley. Just like the near shore and the far shore, if gross and subtle are not distinct, then how can the gross also be subtle and the subtle also be gross? It is not so, because there is difference due to relativity. “Because there is difference due to relativity” means that there is difference due to relativity, therefore it is not unestablished. Whatever is gross relative to something is never subtle relative to that thing, nor is it subtle relative to something else, that is its definition. Like father and son, for example, the son of Devasbyin is Yajnadatta, and the son of Yajnadatta is Vishnu Mitra. Yajnadatta, relative to Vishnu Mitra, is the father, and relative to Devasbyin, is the son. Because it is relative, it is not established as the nature of the father, nor is it unestablished, because there is difference due to relativity. Yajnadatta is not the son relative to Vishnu Mitra, nor is he the father relative to Devasbyin, it is like that. “Bad is that which has afflictions” means because it is condemned by the noble ones. “Abundant is afflicti

The term "not having stains" means because afflictions have not defiled it. The term "distant" refers to the past and future, because the continuum is broken and because it has not reached there. The term "near" refers to what arises in the present, because the continuum is close. Likewise, it is the same up to "consciousness," meaning that whatever feeling it may be, whether it is past, future, or present, internal or external, coarse or subtle, bad or excellent, whether it is far away or near, all of that is gathered together and included in the category called "aggregate of feeling." Similarly, for "consciousness," all of these are gathered together and included in the category called "aggregate of consciousness." These are the same as the past, just like form. This is a distinction: the coarse aspects of feeling, etc., are like the feelings, etc., that rely on the five senses, but because they are not embodied, the coarseness that exists in themselves does not exist. The subtle is what arises from the mind, also because the basis is not embodied. Or, in terms of levels, feeling, etc., have coarse and subtle aspects. The coarse is the feeling that is practiced in the desire realm. The subtle is like this in two examples: the level of the first dhyana. The coarse is the level of the first dhyana. The subtle is the level of the second dhyana, and so on. Similarly, the coarse is the level of the sphere of nothingness. The subtle is up to the peak of existence. Just as feeling is, consciousness should be spoken of in the same way. The term "Venerable" refers to some elders of the Sutra school, or someone named "That." The fortunate and distinguished one says that it is the Elder Dharmapala. To this I say that if he is Dharmapala, then he is speaking of the existence of the past and future, so he is not a Sutra follower, which is a synonym for saying that he is not a realist. Thus, the Venerable Dharmapala is the one who says that things themselves change, and he says that when dharmas enter into various times, the things themselves change, but the essence itself does not change.
