How is this to be understood? It has been explained in detail in "Liberation." If, upon seeing it, it becomes an act of eating, then for the sake of liberation, one will not come again, and the Arhat who is free from attachment to coarse food, even upon seeing very desirable food, such as the sense bases of smell, taste, and touch, will benefit the senses and the great elements, just as they would benefit them. Therefore, it is established that the touch that experiences bliss by focusing on it is food. In the phrase "Touch, thought, and consciousness," the word "consciousness" is a synonym for the word "consciousness." It is established that coarse food is of the nature of the three sense bases, and therefore is with outflows. The three, touch and so on, are with outflows, and because of the absence of outflows, existence is also the same; therefore, only they are specifically called with outflows. The dharmas without outflows are not like that; they do not benefit beings who abide, live, and seek existence. The meaning of "born from mind" is that it is accomplished and arises. "Mind" means to hold firmly. Therefore, it is mentioned that "because it is not caused even slightly by external semen and blood, etc." The word "etc." includes mud, flowers, and so on. Because it is directed towards arising, it is manifest accomplishment, that is, because this manifest accomplishment is directed towards arising, it is manifest accomplishment. "With harm" means with suffering. Here, the source of "intermediate existence is manifest accomplishment" is "after manifest accomplishment with harm." Similarly, it is explained in detail that there is also a person, because this sutra speaks of four possibilities, so intermediate existence is manifest accomplishment, that is, there is a person who has not abandoned the conjoining of manifest accomplishment and has not abandoned the conjoining of arising. There is one who has abandoned the conjoining of arising but has not abandoned the conjoining of manifest accomplishment.

There are also cases where this is not the case. There are cases where, for someone, the conjoining that leads to manifestation and accomplishment has been abandoned, and the conjoining that leads to birth has also been abandoned. There are also cases where, for someone, the conjoining that leads to manifestation and accomplishment has not been abandoned, and the conjoining that leads to birth has also not been abandoned. "Being free from desire in the two realms" means being free from desire in the desire realm and the form realm. "Non-returner" means that a distinction should be made, because it is said in the sutras, "Monks, whatever is abandoned by noble wisdom, that is abandonment," therefore, the intermediate existence of ordinary beings is not completely abandoned, therefore, their occurrence will still happen. In this regard, the first case is the non-returner who is free from desire in the two realms. The second case is those who attain complete nirvana in the intermediate state. The third case is the Arhat. The fourth case is other cases that do not include the above, such as ourselves, etc., and noble beings who are free from desire, i.e., those who are free from desire in the desire realm and will be born in the form realm. Alternatively, the one who appears is the Arhat, because it has already been explained above in this way that the one who appears is the one who has been born, and the one who seeks existence is the intermediate being. Now it is another explanation, the one who appears is the one who is free from desire from the three realms, therefore, it is the Arhat. Those who seek existence are those who have existence, because they seek existence in the three realms. "Abiding" means causing to abide. "Benefiting" is synonymous with "causing existence to arise." "Everything is also both" means that all four foods both cause sentient beings to abide and benefit them, and it is the same for those who seek existence. For the time being, since it is the nature of karma, mental activity, and the touch that is distinguished by it and corresponds to the seed of consciousness are also beneficial. If it is reasonable to think so, then how is it understood that coarse food is also beneficial to those who seek existence? Therefore, coarse food is explained in detail, i.e., for those who are attached to it, i.e., the realm.
