It should be understood that focusing on taste means focusing on the smell and taste that are the objects of enjoyment in the desire realm. The reason for saying "there are four" is that the approximation of the sphere of infinite space (ནམ་མཁའ་མཐའ་ཡས་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་, Sanskrit: ākāśānantyāyatana, Romanized Sanskrit: ākāśānantyāyatana, literal Chinese meaning: sphere of infinite space), which is the object of the uninterrupted path, is the fourth dhyana. Moreover, there are form, sound, touch, and phenomena there. The question of "according to whom is there an object that is completely ceased?" refers to the tenets of which teachers hold that the approximation of the sphere of infinite space (ནམ་མཁའ་མཐའ་ཡས་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་, Sanskrit: ākāśānantyāyatana, Romanized Sanskrit: ākāśānantyāyatana, literal Chinese meaning: sphere of infinite space) focuses on complete cessation and focuses on each of the forms, etc., generally speaking, it is non-focusing. According to the tenets of some teachers, the fourth dhyana focuses on the aspects of touch, etc. According to the tenets of which teachers, the approximation of the sphere of infinite space (ནམ་མཁའ་མཐའ་ཡས་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་, Sanskrit: ākāśānantyāyatana, Romanized Sanskrit: ākāśānantyāyatana, literal Chinese meaning: sphere of infinite space) is the only object that is encompassed, focusing on all five aggregates of the fourth dhyana. According to those teachers who hold this view, there is only one object that is mixed with the phenomena that are close to the Dharma. The phrase "one going upwards" refers to which side? If the formless is approximated, then there are four. This refers to those aspects. The extensive explanation of "not the entity of the formless" means that the object of the formless entities is not the lower realm, generally speaking, it does not focus on the defiled objects of the lower realm. The phrase "it will be explained below" refers to: The virtuous formless entity, The object is not the lower defiled. The extensive explanation of "the first dhyana and" means that the ground of the first and second dhyanas possesses eight branches. The ground of the third and fourth dhyanas possesses four branches. Which ones? It is said that it is the afflicted ones except for those who focus on smell and taste, because there is no smell and taste there. How is it said that there are twelve mental approximations in the first and second dhyanas? Because the approximations of mental pleasure and equanimity are established as the objects of the six objects. Among them, one born in the desire realm, virtuous in form

Not having obtained the mind of joy, that is, the joy of proximity that is related to one's own ground, the four contaminated ones that are related to form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma, and the four contaminated ones that are related to equanimity, whatever they are, are only in accordance with them. Those born in the lower ground are in accordance with the contaminated ones of the upper ground. The four non-contaminated ones that are related to smell and taste are not in accordance, because they are not contaminated. Also, because the virtuous dharma of the form realm has not been obtained, the non-contaminated dharma of the form realm has not been obtained, so it is not in accordance with them. The proximity of equanimity, the ground of the third and fourth dhyanas, is also said to be only six, that is, in accordance with whatever contaminated ones are related to them. Whatever is related to smell and taste is not contaminated, so in the manner described above, it is not in accordance with those two. The so-called only in accordance with one contaminated one is not in accordance with the non-contaminated, because there is no virtuous dharma. The so-called obtaining the virtuous mind of the form realm, broadly speaking, is only born in the desire realm, obtaining the virtuous mind of the form realm that is included by unobstructedness, those who have not separated from the desire realm's attachment are also in accordance with all eighteen of the desire realm. The ground of the first dhyana is in accordance with ten, how are they ten? It is said that the proximity of joy has been spoken of, except for the four contaminated ones that are related to smell and taste. Because the near-division samadhi and others are in accordance with the freedom of equanimity, there is no proximity of joy in the near-division samadhi and others. Therefore, the four contaminated ones that are related to one's own ground, which are included in the proximity of the mind's actual practice, are in accordance, but because the virtue of the actual practice has not been obtained, there is no obtaining of the non-contaminated, so it is not in accordance with those who are related to smell and taste. There is no contaminated lower ground object of meditation. The six proximities of equanimity of the unobstructed ground are said here without distinction.
