Because of holding to inverted views, the nature of ignorance is indeed so. The extensive explanation of "this itself" is that the monk refuted and prevented it with truthful words. From him arose what is called a system of tenets. How so? It is said: If it is the nature of all afflictions, then it would not be separately explained within the predispositions, etc. Because predispositions are no different from the rest, within the predispositions, etc., the predisposition of ignorance would not be separately explained. Having spoken of the bond of desire and the bond of hatred, as well as the bond of delusion, etc., having spoken of the subtle increase of desire for desire, as well as the subtle increase of ignorance, etc., within the rivers, the river of ignorance would not be separately explained, and within the unions, the union of ignorance would not be separately explained. If it is not separately explained, then within the predispositions, etc., the predispositions of ignorance, etc., would also be explained. Why is there no mutual equal possession? Because there is no equal possession in view and view, or in desire and desire. Ignorance is indeed the many grounds of affliction, therefore it is also said to be equally possessed with views, etc., because the many grounds are necessarily equally possessed. The mind is also said to be only afflicted by ignorance, and merely mentioning being afflicted by ignorance establishes being afflicted by desire, etc., therefore it would not be said, "a mind afflicted by desire." If one wishes to say that it is said that way for the sake of distinction, then if one says desire and anger and pride, etc., it would become a fault of saying all afflictions, therefore it would be necessary to specifically explain that "being afflicted by ignorance, which has the nature of desire, is impure." If it is said that one wants it that way, then there would be no special explanation for the mind either, but it would be said thus: ignorance.

It would only be said that a mind that has become afflicted cannot be completely purified. Clarity, wisdom, and prajna have the same meaning. Just like the view on ignorance, this will also become a fault, that is, what is the meaning of not being clear? It is the meaning of not being clear. There will also be faults for the eyes and so on. Then there is no clarity. If that is the case, then it is nothing, which is illogical. If it is said that there is another dharma that is not contrary to clarity, then just like the view on ignorance, it is not known what that is. Such an explanation of the dharmas also exists, appearing in detail, like saying it is distinguished by karma. Therefore, the nature of ignorance is a dharma that is not in accordance with wisdom, something that is not clear. Its function is not in accordance with wisdom, and it should be understood from its function. For example, what is the eye? It is a clear image, which is the basis of the eye's consciousness. Saying it like this, a clear image, isn't this distinguished by its nature? No, because it is not directly perceived, and it should always be inferred after the eye's consciousness. The meaning of beings entering with the thought of "I" is not understood. That elder also did not distinguish the object to be expressed. The Sutra masters say that entering is a different kind of ignorance. As it is said in the Sutra, appearing in detail. The Venerable Dharmaraksha's idea is that because greed and so on are explained separately, he thinks that the entering mentioned here is another form of ignorance. The teacher said that even if there is entering, the Sutra also explains entering. Saying one word is to show that category. How can it be determined that this is ignorance? With what reason can it be completely determined that this is ignorance? The Venerable Dharmaraksha, in order to explain his own idea, listen like this.

It is said that it cannot be said to be other afflictions because craving, views, and the pride of "I am" have already been explained separately. The teacher asked, "Isn't there another kind of pride?" The answer is that any of the other six prides other than the pride of "I am," that is, "entering," but not ignorance, is what is being considered. If this is analyzed, it will become lengthy, that is, if this branch of ignorance is analyzed, there will be many discussions, just as mentioned earlier. Therefore, this should be put aside, and that alone is enough. Or, other pride is, but not ignorance. If this is analyzed, such as "From where does it come?" and so on, it will become lengthy because of repeated answers. Therefore, this analysis should be put aside, which is a concluding statement. Also, "name" and "form" are the branches of action (འདུ་བྱེད།) after the branch of ignorance has been explained, and after that, it is also necessary to explain the branch of consciousness (རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ།). So, why establish them directly, skipping these? To this, the teacher said, "What has already been explained, others will be explained." It will be explained in this way. Regarding "form is widely explained," it means, "Form is the five faculties and the five objects, as well as non-revealing form." That is what it refers to. The so-called "by the power of name, faculty, and object" refers to focusing on things like form by the power of name, the power of faculty, and the power of object, so it is name. If asked, "By the power of which name?" this is because there are two kinds of names. The teacher explained in detail, "What is spoken of in the world, that is," such as "cow" and "horse," which refers to common understanding. "Shape" and "taste" refer to understanding the same meaning. Therefore, the four aggregates such as feeling are called the category of "name," that is, by the power of that name, that is, by the power of naming, even for non-manifest things, one will focus on saying, "The meaning of this name is this." By the power of faculty and object, it is for things like form.
