That one with life, this is extensively discussed. The so-called "except for those dharmas" means "except for the Vipāka (fruition)," which is a synonym. The so-called "not to prevent other aggregates" should be understood in context. The so-called "those also," extensively speaking, means that there are also two aspects of the unrecorded. The so-called "also the nature arising from the vast," the word "also" indicates that the nature of Vipāka is also included. As it is said, "Life is Vipāka twelve two." It should not be held as an is-hetu (cause of similar kind). Teacher Samghabhadra believes that it is only the nature of Vipāka, he advocates the former view. The so-called "six desires and the first Dhyāna practitioners." What are those? According to the Ni-og-pa school, they are the Brahma hosts, the Brahma attendants, and all except the first-born Great Brahma. According to the Kashmir school, they are the Brahma hosts and all except the first-born Brahma attendants. According to their view, the Great Brahmas reside only among the Brahma attendants, there is no other abode. The so-called "because of the variety of colors, signs, and shapes," color refers to blue and so on. Signs refer to clothes and ornaments, etc. Shape refers to height and so on. Water is height. Width is the measure of width. The body of the nature of shape is the body of shape. If distinguished in this way, then the body of feeling, etc., is fabricated, which is not the nature of shape. Body is the physical body. Expressing in words means speaking in words. Now, the so-called second Dhyāna, extensively speaking, means that if they retreat from the second Dhyāna back to the first Dhyāna, then how is it the ground of the second Dhyāna? Recalling the previous abode of the second Dhyāna ground. It is not temporarily with the mind of the first Dhyāna ground, because that is not its object. Nor is it with the mind of the second Dhyāna ground, because that has not yet been attained. If it is said that it is attained later? Therefore, it is extensively said, "If it is attained." Discipline and asceticism are supreme.

The view of clinging to Mahabrahma, thinking that only beings in the first dhyana are possible, arises universally because they have attained the second dhyana and abandoned the first. If it is said that it is beings in the second dhyana, that is not correct, because it is impossible to focus on a lower realm. For no afflictions would want to focus on a lower realm. The statement that those abiding in the intermediate state can see, means that those abiding in the intermediate state see Mahabrahma and then say, "We have seen this being live long and exist for a long time." This view is also incorrect. Because even in that intermediate state, they do not rely on semen and blood, and there is no obstacle to birth. If there is no possibility of long-term existence, how would they think in their minds, "We have seen this being live long and exist for a long time"? They would not know of long-term existence, that is the final conclusion. Therefore, the statement "only those who exist there" explains in detail that only those who abide in the realm of the first dhyana can recall the previous state of Mahabrahma. Only at the time of birth do they see that Mahabrahma, who appeared earlier, has existed for a long time. Having seen it, they later think they have seen it, which is knowing, and the phrase "in their minds" is superfluous. If that is the case, then this being will also think in their mind, "Alas, may other beings also be born here with the same fate as me," and then pray that we may also be born here, so there would be no aversion to this, right? Because the realm is the same, having been born and attained it, they know the prayer in Mahabrahma's mind and remember it, so there is no fault. Or because it is obtained from there. If it is said that this would also lead to faults in the increase of virtue, then that is what is meant by having one body and different consciousnesses. How so? Like this, if it is explained in detail that they, on their actual basis, become completely weary of the faculty of pleasure and manifest the faculty of equanimity from the collection of proximity, then they will be explained below as having one body and the same consciousness.
