is in the Na. The Western Godāna is in the west. The Northern Kurava is in the north. The names of these continents are known in the world as such. The six types of gods just mentioned, and the twenty abodes as such, are the desire realm. The hells are the eight great hells, the four continents and the four great kings, etc., the six just mentioned, the undivided hungry ghosts and animals, and the twenty abodes are the desire realm. The middle of the wind circle refers to the place where the water circle resides. The form realm refers to the realm that is completely separated by form, which is the form realm. There, each of the. The dhyana ground is the third. The fourth ground is the eighth. There, all the dhyanas of the form realm, with the distinctions of small, medium, and large, are each a distinction of the three grounds. The Brahma hosts, the Brahma attendants, and the Great Brahma are the first. The Small Light, Immeasurable Light, and Clear Light are the second. The Small Virtue, Immeasurable Virtue, and Extensive Virtue are the third. The Cloudless, Merit-born, and Great Fruit are the fourth. That great one, combined with the uncontaminated dhyana, with the distinctions of small, medium, large, extremely large, and most extremely large, there are five other different places, namely, No Great, No Affliction, Well Appearing, Extremely Appearing, and Akanistha. Therefore, the fourth dhyana is called the eighth ground. Because it is born from great roots of virtue, it is Brahma. What is that? It is the so-called Great Brahma, who, having attained special dhyana, is first born and last dies, and is great because it is different from the former. Those who dwell in that retinue are the Brahma hosts. Because they lead before Brahma, they are the Brahma attendants. Among these, there are Great Brahmas with distinctions of life and color, etc., therefore they are the Great Brahmas.

Because in comparison to the place of clear light, there is a small light, so they are the Small Lights. These are immeasurable lights because their radiance cannot be measured. They are the Clear Lights because they make other places completely manifest. The happiness of the mind's place is called virtue, and these are Small Virtues because they are small in comparison to other places. These have immeasurable virtue, so they are the Immeasurable Virtues. These have vast virtue, so they are the Vast Virtues. Because it is thought that there is no more excellent happiness than this in other places. These are Cloudless because they are like clouds and have no connection with the earth. Because the immeasurable palace arises and perishes together with sentient beings. Others say that there are no other Cloudless ones above these, because above, like clouds, they have no connection with the earth. Because they arise truly from unwavering actions, these have arisen from merit, so they are the Merit-Born. These have fruits, and all the various ordinary beings associated with other places consider them to be supremely great, so they are the Great Fruits. Because they are not mixed with ordinary beings, they are Pure Abodes, and because these have them, they are the Pure Abodes. Because other Pure Abode dwellers are not more excellent, they are not vast, so they are the Not Great. Or, because they themselves do not abandon or forsake their own place when the time is near, they are the Not Great. Because they have attained special samadhi, this is not afflicted by afflictions, so they are the Unafflicted. Or, because they are of good intention, they do not afflict others, so they are the Unafflicted. Because of completely pure vision, they are very manifest, so they are the Wondrously Manifest. Because of good views, they are very manifest. Because there is no other place more excellent than that, these are not lower, so they are the Non-Lower, because they are higher. This shows the places, and if so, then how are these seventeen places spoken of? Place is the sound that indicates place, so there is no fault. Thus, according to the way of the setting sun, the Form Realm is seventeen places.
