The meaning of the eye has two forms due to the distinctions of color and shape. Because it is well-known in the world, its own characteristics are not explained, but only the distinctions of color are elaborated, saying that there are four types: blue and so on, which are blue, yellow, red, and white. Others are its differences, and "others" refers to clouds and so on. Some say that "others are its differences" because the distinctions of the four colors, such as blue, also produce colors such as green, so it is not limited to just clouds and so on. Shape refers to the distinctions of shape. Moreover, merely the distinctions of the collections included within them become twenty different forms, such as these: from long shapes and so on up to non-squares, there are eight shapes, and the remaining blue and so on have twelve colors, making a total of twenty forms. The so-called sky being a single color refers to what appears like a wall of vaidurya from a distance. Flat is round. Round is flat. Tall refers to coarse forms and so on. Low refers to short forms. Mentioning "where forms appear" is to clearly show that shadows and darkness are different. The so-called "not distinguished" is a synonym for not distinguishing differences. Here, it needs to be considered that if clouds and so on are merely distinctions of the four colors, such as blue, and there is nothing other than that, then just as green and other colors are not mentioned here, clouds and so on should not be mentioned either. This is not considered by those who explain. It cannot be said like this, because although clouds and so on are differences of blue and so on, they are explained separately because they are like illusory forms. Like this, those that appear like walls from a distance are not visible when approached, and some will think that there is nothing at all, or doubt whether this really exists or is just an illusion, which is not right. To prevent reversal and doubt.

Therefore, these such as clouds are explained, meaning that these are the very nature of the form aggregate. The so-called direction of long etc. is a synonym for the direction that does not exceed the scope of long etc. What is that direction? It is said to be the nature of the body's manifestation, the body's manifestation is sometimes short and sometimes does not exceed the scope. How should this be understood? It should be understood that the action of the body caused by the mind that focuses on it, that the nature of the action of the body that does not exceed the scope of long etc. is not diligence. There are also those that exist in both, that is, the remaining form aggregates, that is, those that exclude long etc., clouds, smoke, mist, and dirt etc. The so-called blue etc. appear completely as long etc. means that the shapes of blue, yellow, red, white, shadow, and darkness etc. are considered to be long etc. Therefore, some think that these are also included in the third category. The so-called how can one thing exist in both? means how can one thing become the nature of color and shape? Because it is said in the tenets that the form of shape is a different thing from the form of color. The so-called therefore both appear, means therefore holding color and shape. The so-called existence is the meaning of knowledge, not the meaning of existence, means that the Vaibhashikas answer that, for this, knowledge operates in two ways, not that one thing has two characteristics. Someone says, then the body's manifestation will also have the same fault, this refers to what the teacher said, when holding the body's manifestation, it is impossible that holding color does not occur. The Vaibhashikas' idea is that merely holding blue etc. or appearance etc. arises without depending on shape, while holding the body's manifestation arises without depending on color.

It is thought that grasping the remaining sense bases arises in dependence on color and shape, and that is it. This teacher of the Sutra school does not accept this point, believing that grasping shape is not done by the eye, but is mentally constructed. Since there is no grasping of shape without grasping color, only the existence of color is shape, and there is no substance called shape at all; this is used from the place of the storehouse of karma. What is called showing sentient and non-sentient beings is a synonym for the sound of verbal expression and what is other than that. Some read it as enumerating sentient and non-sentient beings, and it is thought that the meaning here is also the same. If it is thought that the meaning is that it arises from the continuum of sentient and non-sentient beings. Then, in the following connection, it would say: showing sentient beings is the sound of verbal expression. Others are not showing sentient beings, which would be unnecessary. Therefore, it should be clearly read as showing sentient and non-sentient beings. What is called arising from the cause of the grasped great elements means that the present great elements that function without difference from the senses are grasped, while others are not grasped. Because there are causes of grasped great elements here, it arises from the cause of the grasped great elements. For example, like the hand and the sound of speech, it means that even though the external emanation is like a person, it can produce the sound of the hand and speech, but because it arises differently from the senses, it should be understood as being of the nature of arising from the cause of the ungrasped great elements. That is because by the power of the emanator, it can also speak human words, for if one speaks, then all the emanations will speak. If one does not speak, then all the emanations will not speak. It is said that the sound of the external emanation is also produced from the cause of the ungrasped great elements, so it is not grasped. For example, like the sound of wind and forest and water. Here, the word "for example" is because it is an illustration.
