Because the nature of vipāka does not exist, there is no cause of vipāka. Because it is not afflicted, there is also no pervasive cause. Because the path has not been generated before, there is also no equalizing cause. The excellence of contaminated dharmas cannot be the equalizing cause of the assembly of uncontaminated dharmas. Therefore, they do not arise from these. It is mind and mental factors. The expression "mind and mental factors" is stated to show that there is a co-existent cause. The nature of attainment and so on, and form precepts, which are not associated with uncontaminated mind, should also be understood as uncontaminated. Other than mind and mental factors, non-associated formations, and form afflicted and so on, those that are afflicted, and those born from vipāka, and the first of the uncontaminated, those also arise just like mind and mental factors. Only the co-existent cause, that is all. Because they are not of the nature of co-existence, they will not arise from the co-existent cause. How is it? Non-associated formations and form afflicted, except for vipāka and co-existent causes, arise from the remaining four causes. Those born from vipāka also arise only from the remaining four causes, except for pervasive and co-existent causes. The remaining ones arise from the remaining three causes, except for vipāka and pervasive and co-existent causes. The first of the uncontaminated arises from the remaining two causes, except for vipāka and pervasive causes, and equalizing cause and co-existent cause. There is no dharma born from one cause, because the cause and the co-arising cause must exist, otherwise it will not arise. The arising, the arisen, the producer, without cause and condition is impossible. As it is said, therefore, after extensively explaining the cause, one will ask what are the conditions. The similar condition is the condition itself.

The synonym for "the aspect of co-existent cause" is like the cow itself. The so-called mind and mental factors, arising extensively, means that only mental factors can be similarly contiguous, and this must be understood. Saying "arising" is for the future. Saying "last" is because it is the same as the latter, it is an immediate condition. This condition is both co-existent and immediate, therefore it is called co-existent immediate condition, where the word "co-existent" means similar. Saying "form of the desire realm" refers to non-manifest form. Sometimes, the non-manifest form of the desire realm and the non-manifest form of the form realm arise, that is, when the contaminated meditative stabilization manifests. Sometimes, the contaminated and uncontaminated of the desire realm arise, that is, when the uncontaminated meditative stabilization manifests. After the mind of the desire realm, the desire realm, form realm, and uncontaminated mind cannot arise simultaneously, therefore it is confused for the form realm to appear first. Saying "in order to arise the second" means that the second arises from the extensive, that is, when eating and sleeping or entering meditative stabilization, what arises from the extensive that is born from food, and what arises from the extensive that is born from sleep or from meditative stabilization, will arise. Bhiksu is one of the Sūtra school's sthaviras. What is meant by "in order to arise more or fewer dharmas"? It should be understood in context that form is not a co-existent immediate condition. The so-called virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral minds, etc., that is: For the virtuous mind of the desire realm, because it has investigation and analysis, there are twenty-two mental factors, and some add regret. The non-virtuous mind is non-common, and also has twenty when with pride, four afflictions and anger, etc., and regret has twenty-one. The obscured has eighteen, the neutral has twelve. Others consider it to be ten. According to this order, sometimes there are many mental factors, more than twenty-three.
