If it is co-emergent and subsequent, then it is also not endowed with arising, therefore, there is no co-emergent and subsequent fruit for this. Because it is not endowed with arising itself, there is also no similar cause fruit. The similar cause fruit is a phenomenon similar to that which is endowed with arising, which is endowed with arising. Because of the present and because there is no agent of a person, there is also no fruit of the agent of a person for the unconditioned. Whatever arises or is obtained by the power of something, that is the fruit of the agent of that. For that very reason, there is also no fruit of separation, if separation is obtained only by the power of the path, then that path is also conditioned. Because the cause of maturation and the phenomena are not in harmony, there is also no fruit of maturation. The cause of the fruit of maturation is defilement, but the unconditioned is also not defilement. In another way, because it is not in harmony with the five causes, the five fruits are impossible, therefore there is no possibility of fruit for the unconditioned. If you do not want to admit that the path is the causal cause of separation, then, whose fruit is it? The fruit must be related to the cause. Or, how is it a fruit in what way? It is said: For the time being, what you said, "Whose fruit is it?" refers to the fruit of the path. What you said, "How is it a fruit?" is because it is obtained by its power, so it is a fruit, that is, it is obtained by the power of the path. Or, combine the sentence like this: If you ask, "Whose fruit is it?" the answer is the fruit of the path. If you ask, "How is it a fruit?" the answer is because it is obtained by its power. Then, only because the path is able to obtain it, only obtaining is the fruit of the path, but not separation. Why? The word "fruit of the path" should be understood according to the context. It means "because it has no power," that is, the path has no power over separation. Therefore, for the time being, the path is in no way its cause, the path as its cause is none of the six causes. Separation is its fruit, the fruit to be obtained.

One thinks, a son is not something to be created. Some assert that there are five kinds of causes, namely, the agent, the knower, the illuminator, the destroyer, and the obtainer. The cause of the agent is like the seed of a sprout. The knower is like the smoke of a fire. The illuminator is like a lamp for a pot. The destroyer is like a hammer for a pot. The obtainer is like a chariot driver going to another place. Thus, the path is the obtainer, not the cause of creation, and the fruit of separation is also to be obtained, not to be created. Furthermore, if there is no pure fruit, what is the point? The arising of the thought that if there were a fruit for the unconditioned, then it would be the fruit of ownership because it is established as the very cause of action. But the unconditioned does not have these. Therefore, this is also refuted and prevented. Or, if there is no fruit of ownership, how can the unconditioned be the cause of action? The entity that does not obscure arising is the cause of action, because it is said that the entity does not obscure arising. Therefore, this shows that the unconditioned is established as the cause of action only for the conditioned, but not for the unconditioned. Why is its fruit not established like that of the conditioned? Therefore, it is said that that which is liberated from time does not have the power to hold and ripen fruit. Only those things that are encompassed by time have the power to hold and ripen fruit, but others do not. The five now hold the fruit, and the two cause it to be produced. This will be explained. "Spoken by way of synonyms" means that it is explained by other words, but not by its own words. If those are also impermanent, then it is to be ascertained that those are also only impermanent, therefore permanence is not a cause. It will also not become an objective condition, which means which are the causes and which are the conditions.

Because of arising, just as those (arising) causes are all said to be impermanent, so too are conditions said to be only impermanent. Therefore, the unconditioned also does not become an object-condition. The distinction called "arising" means that whatever causes arise from form, and whatever conditions, those are also impermanent. Whatever does not arise is not (impermanent). There are two kinds of conditions, namely those that arise and those that do not arise. The object-condition is that which does not arise, because it is merely an object. The object-condition is what is held by the present (immediate) mind and mental factors, and therefore it acts on the cessation of phenomena. Both act on cessation, because it is so stated (in the scriptures). The extensive explanation called "causes, etc." means that causes are also those that arise and those that do not arise. Therefore, is it not the case that the unconditioned, which does not arise, is not prevented from being a cause that acts only through unobstructed things? The sutra says that it is an object-condition, referring to the sutra "There are four conditions." The phrase "there is no prevention" means that because it does not contradict the nature of reality, it is thought that there is no fault. The phrase "most of the sutras have also disappeared" is because the four parts of the Samyuktaka have declined. In this regard, the teacher thinks that because it does not contradict the nature of reality, there is no need for effort. However, does the unconditioned itself exist? Or does it not exist? Such an analysis will be made. The phrase "all unconditioned" is not just cessation through individual examination. The phrase "like form and feeling, etc." includes sound, conception, and eyes, etc. with the word "etc." The Sutra school says that just as feeling is another thing from form, and conception is another thing from feeling, and so on until consciousness is another thing from formations, the unconditioned is not another thing that exists apart from the five aggregates such as form. Therefore, they say that the unconditioned does not exist in its own right. The phrase "only that which is intangible" means unobstructed.
