This thorough understanding called "Karmic Thought" can state, "At no time is the immediately preceding not a non-immediately preceding." Why is it said like this, "If that dharma is not born"? The meaning is that if that dharma is in the future, then it cannot be the cause of the immediately preceding. In order to explain the final state, it is explained in two ways. To explain in detail, just as there, what dharma is the cause of what dharma, is it sometimes not the cause of that dharma? The answer is: never. Just like that, here too, what dharma is the immediately preceding of what dharma, is that dharma sometimes not the immediately preceding of that dharma? The answer is: never. Here, what dharma is the immediately preceding of what dharma, is that dharma sometimes not the immediately preceding of that dharma? The answer is: If that dharma is not born. Just like that, there too, what dharma is the cause of what dharma, is that dharma sometimes not the cause of that dharma? The answer is: If that dharma is not born. The meaning is that if that dharma is in the future, then it will not become the cause of that cause. Here, the teacher explains in detail, if that is the case, what merit will be obtained? Explaining in two ways like this, no merit will be obtained. Dharma At the time of arising, it is actually not a cause or immediately preceding, if that is the case, then the authors of this treatise, some say there are flaws, some say there are no flaws, only the unintelligent will believe. Temporarily saying there are flaws, it is what dharma is the cause of what dharma, is that dharma sometimes not the cause of that dharma? The answer is: never. How is it like that? Never not being a cause, saying it like that, is also to explain that the final state is a cause with equal ability. No flaws means if that dharma is not born.

It is not the same as that, but the born is the same as that, it is said like that. The intention here is that after determining one meaning, it is thought that it is explained as another meaning. Therefore, only the first answer is good here, because it is said from the perspective of co-emergent, corresponding, and ripening causes, so there is no fault. Then, why is it explained in detail as "it is said like this"? Because it is said that the co-equal cause only has no future. If the co-equal cause has no future, why is it said that the future is outside the view of the perishable collection? Whatever is excluded is both the cause of the view of the perishable collection and the cause of the view of the perishable collection. Then, how is the future view of the perishable collection not the cause of the view of the perishable collection? Because it will not arise simultaneously for the time being, it is not a co-emergent cause and a corresponding cause. Because it is not pointed out in the scriptures, it is also not a ripening cause. Because it is not common, it is also not a doer cause, if it is a cause, then it must be a co-equal cause or a pervasive cause. Here, there are only pervasive causes and co-equal causes. Therefore, if the future view of the perishable collection is not the co-equal cause of the view of the perishable collection, why is it said that this is not outside the meaning of the third sentence? The Vaibhashikas say that it should be said that the future view of the perishable collection is outside the truth of suffering that corresponds to it. What should be excluded is only what corresponds to the view of the perishable collection, not the view of the perishable collection itself. Feelings, etc., are the cause of the view of the perishable collection, which is produced by the co-emergent cause and the corresponding cause, and is also the cause of the view of the perishable collection, but not the co-equal cause. The appearance of "the future view of the perishable collection and" is wrong, because the word "that" is in the following words.

These should not be recited together. In order to distinguish the corresponding truth of suffering, the two terms "the view of the aggregates of destruction corresponds to the future" should be combined and recited. Alternatively, it should actually be understood in this way. If it is not recited in this way, it will be thought that reciting in a way that is inconsistent with the discussion is not stable. Then, how should this statement be understood, that the established discussion, all dharmas are definitely fourfold? The objector's idea is: definitely as a cause, that is, any dharma that is the cause of any dharma, that dharma is never not the cause of that dharma, but is the cause in all three times, this is its definition. Similarly, definitely as a result, that is, any dharma that is the result of any dharma, should be combined with similar causes, etc. Similarly, definitely as a basis, that is, any dharma such as the eye is the basis of any dharma such as eye consciousness, should be combined in this way. Similarly, definitely as an object, that is, any dharma such as form is the object of any dharma such as eye consciousness, should be combined in this way. Therefore, it is thought that since dharmas are definitely causes, they are also causes with equal capacity in all three times. The Sarvastivadins consider it from the perspective of co-emergent and corresponding causes, so there is no fault. To show this, it is said: The cause mentioned here is the corresponding cause and the co-emergent cause, not the cause with equal capacity and the pervasive cause, because it is not established in the future tense. Nor is it the ripening cause, because some immovable karmas do not produce ripening in other lives either. The result is the result of effort and the result of dominance, because these two are the results of co-emergent and corresponding causes. The Sarvastivadins' doctrine is that the future exists and is born, therefore it is said in this way, then is it not the case that what was not a cause with equal capacity in the future tense has become a cause in the present tense?
