So, what does it mean to say that it is like a lamp and light, and a sprout and shadow? Relate it to the things of cause and effect. A lamp also arises with light; it cannot be without light. A sprout also produces a shadow when it grows during the day. However, a lamp is also the cause of arising together with light, and a sprout is the same as the cause of shadow. Let us analyze it for a moment; the opponent's thought is that this example is not established. The previously arisen aggregates, such as butter and essence, are merely the cause of the lamp arising together with light. The cause of the lamp and light is merely that aggregate; they do not consider the cause of light to be the lamp. Similarly, when a sprout grows together with a shadow, one should also merely say the previously arisen aggregates, such as seeds and sunlight. "Definite" means that if something exists, then a certain dharma must exist; what is indefinite is not. That is the cause, and the other is that which possesses the cause; it is a synonym for the dharma of the effect. Simultaneously arising dharmas, such as the four elements, mind and that which follows the mind, and the base and characteristics, if one exists, then all exist, and if one does not exist, then all do not exist, therefore it is the reason for the things of cause and effect. For the moment, simultaneously arising things are permissible, broadly speaking, it refers to simultaneously arising things being considered as things of cause and effect. For example, the eye arises together with eye consciousness, but it is like becoming the cause of the arising of eye consciousness. If it is possible in what way to each other, is eye consciousness the cause of the eye? It is said in reply: Because of existence or non-existence, the reason related to them is just that. Existence and non-existence are synonymous. If mind and so on exist, then mind exists, and if it does not exist, then mind does not exist. Those are also the cause of mind, that is the meaning. If that is the case, then if one exists, then all exist, and if all exist, then one also exists, therefore, if they are things of cause and effect to each other, then if one wants extremely subtle particles without senses...

It says, "Eight subtle particles." Because the formless, which is the cause, will not arise if there is no arising, then the nature of form, taste, smell, and touch will also become mutually that, becoming the cause of arising together mutually, this is the concluding word. And also with the elements, together with the form that is the cause, they will become the cause of arising together. The nature of mental concordance, etc., the word "etc." also includes those concordant natures that follow the mind. Mind, etc., here the word "etc." also indicates that those that follow the mind also become causes mutually. What is obtained by this very word "etc.", those born together, and those who have and possess, will also become what is said. Just as three sticks stand by relying on each other's strength. Standing by relying on each other's strength is that one stands by the strength of one, just as three sticks stand by relying on each other's strength. Just like three sticks, just as three sticks stand by relying on each other's strength, so those that arise together, mind and mental factors, will become things of cause and effect. Let us examine this a little here, what appears extensively is that this is to be fully examined, it is thought that this example is not established. The strength of those three sticks arising together, does the strength of arising together make the sticks stand? Or is it because of the power of the previous assembly that it is so? Or just as the power of the assembly of the general nature that previously arose and transformed from arising, abides together, so later also, those who rely on each other will arise. There is also something else in that, this is to show that it is not only the mutual strength. Why is that? The answer is, the thread, is not the binding of the three sticks. The wedge is a synonym for the peg. Relying on, is from below. Those also, that is, those arising together also have equal shares, are universally present, mature, and act as
