Etc., and those that belong to the same time, as well as the same nature of result, Vipāka, and cause, there are five. For those things that have the nature of arising, there are those five, as well as the same nature of arising, abiding, and ceasing, there are eight. The so-called "less in the mind" refers to any mind that has few accompanying factors, which is called "less in the mind." What is that? It is the mind above the second Dhyana, which is undefiled and neutral. Because there are neither Vitarka nor Vicara there, nor many virtuous grounds, etc., there are only ten Sarvatraga dharmas. The so-called "their characteristics" refers to the characteristics of the Sarvatraga dharmas. The so-called "their corresponding characteristics" are because they are far away. The so-called "one's own corresponding characteristics" are because they are near. Therefore, it is said that "one's own characteristics and corresponding characteristics are eight." The so-called "except for one's own corresponding characteristics" means that the corresponding characteristics act on the characteristics, because the mind is particularly superior, and they are inferior. The mind is like the king of characteristics and corresponding characteristics, therefore the corresponding characteristics are the cause of the mind arising simultaneously, but the mind is not their cause. The characteristics act on the mind, therefore they are the cause of the mind arising simultaneously. Others say there are fourteen, and the idea of others is that, for example, the corresponding characteristics do not act on the Dharma. What then? They act on the characteristics of the Dharma. Therefore, just as they do not think that they are the cause of the Dharma arising simultaneously, their characteristics also act only on the corresponding Dharmas, but not on the mind, therefore they are not the cause of the mind arising simultaneously, but the mind is like their king, so it is the cause of arising simultaneously. If it is thought that the forty characteristics of the ten Sarvatraga dharmas are not the cause of the mind arising simultaneously, then it will contradict the Vibhajyavāda, because in the Vibhajyavāda it says:

Among the four noble truths, from the truth of suffering to the truth of the path, which are included as causes of the view of the aggregates, and which are not included as causes of the view of the aggregates? Which are causes of the view of the aggregates, and which are not included as causes of the view of the aggregates? Which are both included as causes of the view of the aggregates and are causes of the view of the aggregates? Which are neither included as causes of the view of the aggregates nor are causes of the view of the aggregates? This is the question asked and answered: The two, the truth of cessation and the truth of the path, are neither included as causes of the view of the aggregates nor are causes of the view of the aggregates. There is a distinction between the two, but the truths of suffering and origin have classifications. How are they classified? In the truth of suffering, some are included as causes of the view of the aggregates but are not causes of the view of the aggregates; some are included as causes of the view of the aggregates and are also causes of the view of the aggregates; some are neither included as causes of the view of the aggregates nor are causes of the view of the aggregates, making it a three-part division, with no second part. Among these, those included as causes of the view of the aggregates but not causes of the view of the aggregates are, apart from the coarse and manifest and presently arising truths of suffering to be abandoned by seeing suffering, and the truths of suffering that correspond to them; and apart from the coarse, pervasive, past, and presently arising truths of suffering to be abandoned by seeing the origin, and the truths of suffering that correspond to them; and apart from the future truths of suffering that correspond to the view of the aggregates; and apart from the arising, aging, abiding, and impermanence of the view of the aggregates and the dharmas that correspond to it, whatever other defiled truth of suffering there is. Those that are both included as causes of the view of the aggregates and are causes of the view of the aggregates are whatever is apart from what was said above. Those that are neither included as causes of the view of the aggregates nor are causes of the view of the aggregates are the non-defiled truth of suffering. Just as the truth of suffering is, so too is the truth of origin the same.
