What else is there? It is other than those. What is that? It is form, such as how it is other than those? For example, those cannot be produced by factors such as feeling, similarly, all factors such as form and feeling cannot produce unconditioned things such as space. The former is spoken from the perspective of determining its own nature, this is spoken from the perspective of determining its ability. There are those who refute, this refers to detailed explanations, such as "There are deer in the mountains," meaning "It is not that they do not cultivate, but only cultivate," such words would make it impossible to understand the meaning of the two negations. Also, such as "There are bees," meaning "It is not that they do not eat honey," but "only eat honey," similarly, "There are those who refute" means that the scriptures of the Sutras, Vinaya, and Abhidharma should not be abandoned. Therefore, one should also answer faults, one should also answer the faults raised by the opponent, and one should also follow the established tenets, and not abandon everything, this is what was thought. The collection of names, etc., is: the collection of names, speech, and letters. The collection of names is the collection of names. The collection of speech is the collection of words. The collection of letters is the collection of letters. The so-called "name-maker" is the language of the world. The so-called "name-maker" and "name-establisher" are synonyms, for example, the world says: "The name of this speaker is established as 'Devadatta'." The maker of name is the name-maker, that is, by which the mental dharma produces cognition and arises. Or, the name itself is the maker, so it is the name-maker, saying name is to eliminate other makers. Saying maker is to distinguish it from mental factors, if it is said "name is name," then mental factors will also become mental factors. The name-maker is name, such as form, sound, etc. The so-called speech is word, meaning that it can be understood and comprehended by it, so it is word. Therefore, it is said, "No matter how much sound is emitted, it is complete." Alas!

All conditioned things are impermanent. Such and so on, by the sound of "and so on," summarizes "the law of arising and ceasing." Having been born, they cease; their pacification is bliss. Such and so on. The meaning of this verse is as follows: Alas, all conditioned things are impermanent. This is the proposition. They are of the nature of arising and ceasing. This is the reason, because they possess the nature of arising and ceasing, therefore they are impermanent, thus it is fully understood. Having been born, they cease. This is the example. Whatever arises, that will cease, like a pot and so on. Conditioned things are also the same, thus it is explained. Others say, this is "they are of the nature of arising and ceasing." How is this known? Thus, because it is seen that having been born, they cease, therefore it is establishing what is not established as a reason, thus they say. Others say, alas, all conditioned things are impermanent. They are of the nature of arising and ceasing. These two are expressed as synonyms. Why? It is said: Thus, having been born, they cease. This is stating the reason, thus they say. Their pacification is bliss. Whatever is impermanent is suffering, therefore, their pacification is bliss. Thus, it is making a connection with those who are to be tamed. By what is the difference in the relationship of action, quality, and time understood? For example, like saying, taking, going, and so on, and like black, white, mixed color, red, and so on, and like cooking, will cook, has cooked, and so on, that which understands the difference in the relationship of action, quality, and time is a word. Thus, those that reside in the general collection of words, whatever is established in the particular is the meaning of speech, thus they say. Thus, a name expresses its own characteristic, and a word expresses the difference in the relationship of action and so on, thus it is explained. A letter is a letter, thus it is said, it is a letter.
