Because the future is unattainable, a virtuous mind is what can be attained in the future. The absence of mind is not the case, so like that, the future will not be attained. Cessation is also called "suchness," which is related to meditative absorption. The word "suchness" must be grasped. Just as the meditative absorption of non-perception is shown, the word "suchness" compares "mind and mental factors cease." Similarly, this meditative absorption of cessation that is shown should also be compared in the same way. In the mental activity that precedes peaceful abiding, "abiding" is like abiding in play, which is a characteristic of meditative concentration. Abiding is peaceful, which is peaceful abiding. Perceiving peaceful abiding is perceiving peaceful abiding. Because there is a precursor to this, it is the mental activity that precedes the perception of peaceful abiding; mental activity is synonymous with "mind." Those who are completely weary due to the pervasive arising of feelings and perceptions will transform into the perception of peaceful abiding, and thus, with such mental activity, they enter into this meditative absorption of cessation. For the meditative absorption of non-perception, it is with the perception of arising as a precursor, which is synonymous with the perception of liberation as a precursor. In other instances, it will be experienced; other instances refer to the third lifetime, etc., where it will be experienced. For example, if a noble one generates the meditative absorption of cessation in the desire realm and is reborn in the peak of existence, then after being born, they will fully experience it. If someone completely declines from there and is reborn in the form realm, even if they attain the peak of existence at another time, whether they generate the meditative absorption of cessation or not, they will be reborn in the peak of existence, which is what will be experienced in other instances. If someone completely passes into nirvana here, then it is uncertain. Because of the fear of annihilation, it refers to the complete annihilation of the nature of self.

Because of fear, the absence of future existence will cause harm, just like children on a cliff. Why isn't the absorption of non-perception feared because of cessation? Answer: Because there is form in it, clinging to form as self, thereby entering into absorption. But the absorption of cessation, because it is the realm of formlessness, without form, seeing that the nature of self is completely non-existent, therefore not delighting in entering into absorption. In the formless realms, are there not co-species and non-sentient beings such as the life force? Why not cling to them as self and enter into absorption? Answer: Because non-sentient beings are invisible. It is also said, "Born from the power of the noble path." How is it known that it is born from the noble path? Therefore it is said, "Seeing the Dharma of Nirvana, because of faith in this." Seeing at the time of Nirvana is seeing the Dharma of Nirvana, it is there. Regarding "Because of faith in this," saying "It is it" is faith in it. Or saying "By this saying" is faith in it. Because of faith in it, therefore it is said, "Because of faith in this," the noble ones see Nirvana at the time, thinking "This is it," thereby having faith. Some also say this: "Seeing Nirvana, because of faith in this," meaning that because Nirvana is seen by this, therefore it is seeing Nirvana. The noble one has faith in this, which is faith in it. If there is faith in it, it is said, "Because of faith in this," meaning that the noble one has faith in seeing the Dharma, and not in others. If ordinary beings also see Nirvana through the worldly path, is it not so? Answer: Ordinary beings do not see Nirvana, but attain Nirvana, because ordinary beings view the higher realm as peaceful, thereby attaining detachment from desire, but not Nirvana, so this should not be a dispute. Saying "This can only be attained through effort," means that this absorption is also the absorption of non-perception.
