The continuum of consciousness, whether it conforms to its own kind or to another kind, will plant seeds. From this, the special and unpredicted seed, when needed, its power will arise. Defiled consciousness can also plant seeds on undefiled consciousness, and undefiled consciousness can also plant seeds on defiled consciousness. In this way, they can plant seeds in each other and produce each other. When consciousness arises from other consciousness, they engage in mutual giving and giving. Goodness leaves a difference in ability on the mind of non-virtue, it is not that non-virtue becomes virtue, or that virtue becomes non-virtue, but only a difference in ability. Ability, seed, and habit are all the same meaning. Similarly, defilement leaves a difference in ability on the undefiled, and the undefiled also leaves a difference in ability on the defiled. It is not that the defiled will become undefiled, or that the undefiled will become defiled. This should also be said for habits such as non-virtue. Vaibhashikas, you should also consider: When defiled consciousness is immediately followed by undefiled consciousness, or undefiled consciousness is immediately followed by defiled consciousness, is it the aggregate of defilement, or the aggregate of undefilement, the former aggregate is similar to the arising of the latter aggregate, does it have the ability to be the nature of the immediately preceding condition, etc.? Or is it without ability? What will happen from that? If it is without ability, then this similarity will disappear as the immediately preceding condition, etc. But if it has power, is what is in the defiled mind defiled, or is it undefiled? When the defiled consciousness is also similar to other defiled and undefiled consciousnesses, and acts as the immediately preceding condition, etc., is it only by this power that the similarity of the defiled can act as the immediately preceding condition, etc.? If it is only by this power, then how can one not seek power? Or another undefiled aspect

If it is said that it acts as an immediate condition, etc., then how can it be that one mind, these two powers that are no different from that mind, are both different in nature and different in result? According to us, the powers that are no different from the mind all abide in it, and the results are also different. Similarly, the similarity between defiled mind and undefiled mind also transforms into the nature of immediate condition, etc. Similarly, for those similar to it, it should also be said that those powers are different in nature and different in result. Therefore, if it is said that "non-virtue is also the seed of virtue," etc., this is unreasonable. Because virtue makes it different by establishing the difference of power, the capable non-virtuous mind does not act as the seed of non-virtue. Then what does it do? It only acts as the seed of virtue. If non-virtue, which is made different by generating the difference of its own power, acts as the seed of non-virtue, then how can it be said that the seed of virtue is non-virtue? If the seed of virtue is established in the non-virtuous mind, if it is said how can it not become non-virtuous? Then you do not understand the meaning of seed, because the arising of virtuous mind, how can it directly or indirectly cause that mind to arise by itself, like that, the non-virtue of the mind with the difference of power arises, the seed is only the difference of power, there is no such thing as the name of seed, because it is a hypothetical existence. For the same reason, attainment and non-attainment are both hypothetical existences. The Vaibhashikas say that those are all substantially existent. Regarding the attainment of the past Dharma, the past is also existent, etc., it is widely said, regarding the past, for example, the attainment of the past by those with afflictions is that which has arisen and ceased, that is, there is also that which arose earlier, there is also that which arose simultaneously, and there is also that which arose later. The attainment of those themselves that has not arisen is that which has not arisen, that is, that which will arise later. That which has arisen in that way is that which has arisen and not ceased. Regarding the future.
