Furthermore, those three bases of the forms of afflictions or merits from the desire realm to the peak of existence, namely, which are small, medium, and large, among those, great afflictions are coarse, and small ones are subtle, and the opposite of afflictions are merits, and so on. Thus, coarseness and subtlety themselves, with the difference of purity and form, are also relative, so if there is coarseness and subtlety themselves between the peak of existence, then conceptualization and analysis are the realm of desire and the first dhyana, so that is not accepted either. It is also unreasonable that the nature of coarseness and subtlety themselves is different, saying that conceptualization is also different and analysis is also different, thinking that conceptualization and analysis are different in nature. It is unreasonable that coarseness itself and subtlety itself, in order, conceptualization and analysis are different in essence. Why? Feelings and perceptions that are different in nature become coarseness and subtlety themselves, but only coarseness and subtlety themselves are not their different essences. So what is it? With the characteristic of experiencing and, with the characteristic of grasping at characteristics, they are different in essence, so there is no characteristic of these two either. Others say, these are the Sutra school. 'Verbal expression' means the same as 'completely arousing speech'. One speaks words after thinking and analyzing, not without thinking and analyzing, this is the thought of conceptualization and analysis that one should speak like this and this. Among them, those that are coarse are the conceptualization of verbal expression, which shows the essence by action, but cannot fully show other characteristics. Similarly, those that are subtle are analysis. For this conceptualization, conceptualization and analysis arise with a common essence and type, because it is the collection of mind and mental factors that completely arouse. If it is said how one mind has those two, therefore the distinction sayers say, if one mind has coarse, it is also another dharma.

If explained in detail, if it is also another dharma, it is said extensively that the nature of a single mind's coarse perception and subtle examination is also another dharma. Those are also the causes of the coarseness and subtlety of the mind in order, so they are called the coarseness and subtlety of the mind. Or, because the mind has coarseness, it is the coarseness of the mind. The nature of the coarseness of the mind is the coarseness of the mind itself. The subtlety of the mind itself should also be said in the same way. What contradiction is there in this? If perception and examination are different kinds like feeling and conception, there is no contradiction. Feeling is coarse and conception is subtle. Because those have different kinds, there is coarseness and subtlety, and even if they arise in one mind, there is no contradiction. However, for some who do not distinguish the characteristics of the same kind, if they also consider it as one, then small and large, that is, coarse and subtle characteristics cannot arise simultaneously. It is implied that they will not arise simultaneously. Like this, feeling or other dharma, from the category, will depend on small and large. If that is the case, it will not be clear, what does this mean? It is a different kind. Why? Because each kind has small and large. From the relative difference, feeling is both coarse and subtle. How is it? Feeling is coarse relative to conception, and subtle relative to form. Similarly, conception is coarse relative to action, and subtle relative to feeling. Or, just like perception and examination themselves. According to your view, the perception and examination used in the desire realm are coarse, and the perception and examination of the first dhyana ground are subtle. The examination of special dhyana is the most subtle. In that way, because each kind has small and large. If that is the case, it will not be clear, small and large themselves will not clearly distinguish the kind, this is the concluding remark. Here, the Abhidharmakosha master says that because the time of strength is different, there is coarseness and subtlety itself in only one mind.
