Yes, that is truly shamelessness. Because there is shamelessness in this, it is shamelessness. Its nature is shamelessness itself, it is a dharma that contradicts reverence, but it is not merely the absence of it. Shamelessness, not fearing what should not be done. The so-called "what should not be done" refers to what should not be said, therefore, the so-called "what should not be done" refers to what is condemned by the noble ones, this is what is meant. Not fearing that is shamelessness, the so-called "not regarding what should not be done as having unpleasant consequences" is the general statement. Because fear arises from this, the word "fear" is used to explain that it will not be exhausted, therefore, the word "fear" refers to not regarding it as having unpleasant consequences. Is not regarding fear not fearing? If explained in detail, suppose for a moment it is said like this, it is fear, but because there is a state of not regarding fear in this, it is not fearing. Its nature is not regarding fear itself, if explained like this, it will be known that it is wisdom, because wisdom is not regarding fear. However, if it is said like this, because there is a state of regarding fear in this, it is regarding fear. Because of not fearing, it is not regarding fear. Its nature is not regarding fear itself, or, the nature of regarding fear is regarding fear itself. The nature of not fearing is not fearing itself, if explained like this, it will be known that it is ignorance, because being associated with ignorance will not regard fear. The so-called "seeing is also not seeing itself", if explained in detail, it is neither wisdom nor ignorance. Then what is it? What is the near cause affliction of these two, wisdom and ignorance, that is not fearing. That is called shamelessness, the so-called "because this makes one have shame, therefore it is having shame". What is not having shame is shamelessness. There are also others who think that knowing shame is also caution, and having shame is also caution, because the root meaning of the words is the same, so how do these words express different meanings?

"Depending on oneself" is said extensively. Even so, how can two dependencies be established simultaneously? This is said by the objector who sees that two dependencies cannot exist simultaneously in this respect either. Even so, the word "also" is thought to be a fault in this respect as well. Thinking that shamelessness and embarrassment cannot arise simultaneously in one mind, they object, "How can two dependencies be established simultaneously?" "It is not said that one depends on oneself and others simultaneously." This is said extensively to show that these arise in different categories. Some arise depending on oneself without regard to faults, and some arise depending on others. The opposite is knowing shame and having embarrassment, which is said extensively. First, the first distinction: "Disrespectful, shameless, without embarrassment, does not fear faults." It is like this. "Having respect" is said extensively, and to fear faults is to have embarrassment. The reason for fearing is a synonym for having embarrassment. The second distinction is that depending on oneself and not caring about faults is shamelessness, and depending on others is without embarrassment. If so, depending on oneself and caring about faults is knowing shame, and depending on others is having embarrassment. Even so, to the objection of "two dependencies," a broad answer should be given. Some people think that joy and respect are the same, so in order to show their differences well, they like faith. Joy is only faith, not respect. Not only joy and faith, therefore joy is of two kinds, afflicted and unafflicted, and so on. There is also faith but not joy, which is one of the four sentences. For the truths of suffering and origin, only the nature of present acceptance is faith, not joy, because it is not something to be rejoiced in.

reason. There are cases where there is joy but not faith, because it is the craving of the essence of joy, but not the essence of complete trust, so it is not faith. The case where both are true is that it is both faith and joy, because the truths of cessation and the path are the essence of being completely trusted and should be rejoiced, so it is the nature of both, which is the summary. The case where neither is true refers to those situations other than those, which refers to feelings and other mental events that are not accompanied. Thus, the fourfold distinction of joy and faith with respect to the Dharma is combined, in order to combine the fourfold distinction with respect to persons. For persons, it is explained in detail. Among them, those who live together are called co-habitants, referring to those who are ordained disciples. Those who live near the teacher are called attendants, referring to those who are connected through offerings and service. For those such as sons, there is only joy and no respect. Those with afflictions and those without afflictions should be applied accordingly. Respect is not joy, because respect itself is the definition of knowing shame (Hri, ह्री, hrī, Shame). The case where it is respect but not joy is because it is a place to be respected. The case where both are true is joy and respect, which is the nature of both, which is the summary. The case where neither is true refers to those situations other than those, referring to those other people who have no relationship and no qualities, for whom there is neither joy nor respect. The joy that precedes is joy, meaning that the teacher thinks that the joy that is preceded by trusting in qualities, that is joy, so faith itself is not joy. Respect itself is knowing shame (Hri, ह्री, hrī, Shame), meaning that knowing shame as described before, is accompanied by respect, accompanied by reverence, and accompanied by the domination caused by fear, the knowing shame that is spoken of is respect. Therefore, joy is the definition of faith, and respect is the definition of knowing shame (Hri, ह्री, hrī, Shame), this is the explanation of making their distinction. Being accompanied by reverence is also similar to that, meaning that knowing shame is also the same as the Dharma.
