Why is this called conforming to the final part? Because it possesses the final part. The final part is the realm of desire. These are the things that conform to it, like this: two do not transcend the realm of desire, three completely lead. The desire for desire and harmful thoughts do not transcend the realm of desire. For looking at the aggregates of disintegration, etc., even if they have transcended, they still completely lead back, because they are the gateway, retinue, and in accordance with the Dharma. When a stream-enterer has completely abandoned the three fetters, and therefore has abandoned the six afflictions, why is it that having abandoned the three views, it is only said to be the view of the aggregates of disintegration, holding to precepts and asceticism as supreme, and doubt? Although all of these should be mentioned, nevertheless, because the main and root are briefly summarized, it is said to be three. There are three types of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, namely the first, second, and fourth types. These three summarize the main part of them. Furthermore, the view of clinging to extremes is included in the view of the aggregates of disintegration. Holding views as supreme is included in holding precepts and asceticism as supreme. Wrong view is included in doubt. Therefore, because the root is briefly summarized, it is also said to be three. Others say: not wanting to go, wrong path, and doubt about the path, like that, they obstruct going to liberation, therefore it is said to be three. There are three things that obstruct going to another place, namely not wanting to go, wrong path because of relying on another path, and doubt arising about the path. Similarly, for going to liberation, these three are also obstacles. For that, the view of the aggregates of disintegration causes fear of liberation, and therefore becomes not wanting to go. Holding precepts and asceticism as supreme causes reliance on another path, and therefore causes the path to be wrong. Doubt causes doubt about the path. When it is shown that the stream-enterer has abandoned those things that obstruct going to liberation, it is to be understood that the Blessed One said that he has abandoned only three afflictions. How does the Blessed One conform to the final part?

Just as the five lower fetters are explained, there are also five higher fetters. What are they? It is said: arising from the form and formless realms, the two desires, agitation, pride, and ignorance. These are the five fetters that correspond to the higher realms, namely, desire for the form realm, desire for the formless realm, agitation, pride, and ignorance. If these are not abandoned, one cannot transcend the higher realms. The chapter on fetters is complete. What are the bonds? There are three bonds, namely, the bond of all desire, the bond of hatred, and the bond of all delusion. Why are these three said to be bonds? Because of feeling, there are three bonds: for pleasant feeling, in a way that is both the object and corresponding, desire increases; for suffering, it is hatred; for neither-pleasant-nor-painful, it is delusion. Desire and hatred are not like that. The subtle latent defilements have already been discussed. The near defilements should be discussed. Among them, those that are defilements are also near defilements because they make the mind near to defilement. Whatever mental events other than defilements, which are called defiled aggregates of formations, those are near defilements, and those are not defilements. Those that are other than defilements, the defiled dharmas arising from the mind, included in the aggregate of formations, those are near defilements, but not defilements. Those also arise from subtle sources. Here, only those that are completely enveloped and grasped by the stain of defilements should be shown. What are the complete entanglements? It is said: There are eight complete entanglements: shamelessness and lack of shame, jealousy, stinginess, agitation, regret, lethargy, and sleep. This is temporarily the way of distinguishing. According to the Vaibhashikas, there are ten, those eight, plus anger and concealment. Among them, shamelessness and lack of shame have already been discussed. Jealousy is the inner disturbance of the mind due to the perfections of others. Stinginess is towards Dharma and material possessions.
