, and those that are similar to it and have not become extensive (afflictions) are also accompanied by subtle anusayas, because they are associated with it. Non-afflicted minds are those that have not abandoned the subtle anusayas that arise with it as their object, and they are accompanied by subtle anusayas. So, how do these ten subtle anusayas arise? First, initially, due to having ignorance, one is completely ignorant of the truths, and therefore does not desire suffering or the path. Then, doubt arises about ignorance. Because of ignorance, having heard two sides, doubt arises, such as "Is this suffering? Is this not suffering?" and so on. Then, wrong view arises. Wrong view arises from doubt, and due to wrongly hearing and wrongly thinking about the doubt that has arisen, one wrongly ascertains that "there is no suffering," and so on. Then, the view of the aggregates as a collection arises. From wrong view, the view of the aggregates as a collection arises, from suffering itself the skandhas appear and are apprehended as self. Then, the view of extremes arises. From the view of the aggregates as a collection, the view of extremes arises, because one clings to the extremes of self as permanent or impermanent. Then, there is the adherence to ethical discipline. Because one believes that whatever extreme view can bring purification. Then, one holds the view as supreme. Connected to this, from holding ethical discipline and asceticism as supreme, the holding of the view as supreme arises, because one holds as supreme whatever one believes can bring purification. Attachment and pride arise towards one's own view. Because in the way of attachment, one becomes filled with it. Hatred arises towards others. One is overly attached to one's view, and therefore hatred arises towards the views of others who have become its enemies. The order is like that. The order of the arising of these ten subtle anusayas is like that. The arising of afflictions arises from three causes: not abandoning subtle anusayas, being close to the object, and non-virtuous action. The cause of afflictions is complete. For example, in the case of desire, it is because one has not abandoned subtle anusayas and has not fully understood, and the dharma that is completely intertwined with desire also appears, and if one engages in non-virtuous action towards it, then desire arises. These are in order.

These are the powers of the combination of cause and object! Other afflictions should also be known to arise in the same way. What is the complete cause? Sometimes they arise solely from the power of the object, such as the Dharma nature of an Arhat who has completely degenerated. In the Sutra it says: The Blessed One said that these subtle predispositions are the three outflows, namely the outflow of desire, the outflow of existence, and the outflow of ignorance. The four rivers, namely the river of desire and so on. The four bonds, namely those themselves. The four clingings, namely the clinging to desire and so on. Among them, for the time being, except for delusion, by desire, all afflictions with all attachments, are the outflow of desire. It should be known that except for ignorance, the afflictions with all attachments that are practiced in the desire realm are the outflow of desire, abandoning the five types of ignorance, the thirty-one subtle predispositions and the ten attachments, there are a total of forty-one dharmas. The subtle predispositions of the form and formless realms are solely the outflow of existence. The phrase "except for delusion" should be added. Except for ignorance, the subtle predispositions that are practiced in the form and formless realms are the outflow of existence, abandoning the subtle predispositions of ignorance, there are five that correspond to the form realm, and five that correspond to the formless realm, there are twenty-six that are practiced in the form realm, and twenty-six that are practiced in the formless realm, there are a total of fifty-two dharmas. Why are the subtle predispositions that are practiced in the form and formless realms summarized and spoken of as one outflow of existence? Because they are unspecified, inwardly directed, and the basis of samadhi, so they are combined into one. Combining these two into one is because they are unspecified, inwardly directed, and the basis of samadhi, they are combined into one by three similar dharmas. Now it is established that ignorance is the outflow of ignorance of the three realms, there are a total of fifteen dharmas. Why is this established separately? Because they are all rooted in ignorance, so they are shown separately as outflows. The outflows that have been spoken of in this way, the same rivers, bonds, etc., are shown separately for clarity. Other than views, the outflow of desire itself is the river of desire and the bond of existence, and the outflow of existence is also the same.
