In short, in the form and formless realms, all actions are unspeakable. The view of the perishable aggregates of the desire realm, and the ignorance together with the clinging to extremes. The view of the perishable aggregates and the clinging to extremes, and the ignorance that corresponds to them, are unspeakable in the desire realm. Why? Because they are not contrary to generosity and so on, that is, thinking that I will become happy after death, so one gives alms and keeps the precepts. The view of annihilation also accords with liberation, so it is not unwholesome either. The rest here are unwholesome. The remaining subtle parts are unwholesome in the desire realm. How many unwholesome roots are there? Is it one or many? It should be said that it is not many. The unwholesome roots of the desire realm are: desire, hatred, and ignorance. All desires, all hatred, and all ignorance other than the view of the perishable aggregates and the clinging to extremes and those corresponding to them, are the three unwholesome roots in the desire realm, namely, desire is the unwholesome root, hatred is the unwholesome root, and ignorance is the unwholesome root. Whatever is unwholesome is also an unwholesome root, then it exists in the unwholesome root. The remaining subtle parts are considered not to be unwholesome roots. Is the unspeakable root one or many? If asked, there are three unspeakable roots. Which three? Existence, ignorance, and wisdom. This is said to show what is unspeakable. The Kashmiris say that craving, ignorance, and wisdom, even if they come from the result of maturation, all those that are slightly unspeakable are unspeakable roots. Because both are high, therefore from those others. Doubt is not a root because it exists in two forms, because it is wavering. Pride is not the abode of the characteristic of height, because it does not agree with the root dharma. The root is seen as stable in the world and existing below. The Westerners say there are four. The Westerners think there are four unspeakable roots, namely, craving, view, pride, and ignorance.
