Looking at the "sa" (ས་, earth) is the view of the perishable aggregation. All views that focus on what is tainted are also views of the perishable aggregation. Why is it said that only the views of self and what belongs to self are views of the perishable aggregation? It is to realize that this view is based on the perishable aggregation, not on self or what belongs to self. From that which appears as the pleasure of self, one constantly views it as permanent, as annihilated, or as clinging to extremes, because one clings to the extremes of permanence and annihilation. To say that the truth of suffering and so on exists or does not exist is a wrong view. Viewing the inferior as superior is holding to the supreme view. Viewing what is not a cause as a cause, and viewing what is not a path as a path, is holding to the supreme morality and asceticism. If viewing what is not a cause as a cause is holding to the supreme morality and asceticism, why is it not abandoned by seeing the origin? Because some people view Ishvara or the Lord of Beings as the cause, they cling to and observe permanence, oneness, self, and the agent. Therefore: Because of inversion, Ishvara, etc., manifest clinging to self as the permanent cause. Because of intervening in the middle, therefore, it is abandoned by seeing suffering. Clinging to self and permanence in them, these two are abandoned by seeing suffering itself. Therefore, even if one clings to the cause, one will abandon it. What is said is that because of inversion, one clings to self and permanence, then, are there only those two inversions? There are four inversions: clinging to permanence in impermanence, clinging to pleasure in suffering, clinging to purity in impurity, and clinging to self in non-self. Then, what is the nature of these four inversions? Four inversions arise from three views: from the view of clinging to extremes and the view of permanence arises the inversion of permanence. From the view of taking something as supreme arises the inversion of pleasure and purity. From the view of the perishable aggregation arises the inversion of self. Why are other afflictions not inversions? Thus, inversions are established by three causes. Which three?

The causes of perversion, as well as the causes of ascertainment and the causes of superimposition. Regarding the object of focus, there are causes of perversion, causes of ascertainment, and causes of superimposition. Among these, nihilistic views and wrong views are not superimposition, because they are entering the gate of non-existence. Holding precepts and asceticism as supreme is not entirely perverse, because they are only aimed at purity. Other afflictions are not definitely impermanent, and are not the nature of views, therefore they are not perverse. The sutra says that "to perceive permanence in impermanence" is a perversion of thought, a perversion of mind, and a perversion of view. Here, only the view is perverse, while the mind and thought are influenced by it. Due to the power of the perverse view, the corresponding thought and mind are also called perverse. Furthermore, is it only the subtle distinctions of reality that have classifications, while others do not? Answer: Pride also has them. How so? Answer: There are seven types of pride, namely pride, excessive pride, pride beyond pride, pride of "I am," arrogance, inferior pride, and wrong pride. Undifferentiated conceit is called pride. Due to the difference in entering, it has seven forms. The small one thinks he is great, or equal to himself, and is conceited, this is pride. One who is equal to oneself thinks he is greater, this is excessive pride. One who is greater than oneself thinks he is even greater, this is pride beyond pride. To grasp the five aggregates of appropriation as self or belonging to self, this is the pride of "I am." Not having attained superior qualities, but thinking that one has attained them, this is arrogance. Being only slightly inferior to the superior, thinking that one is inferior, this is inferior pride. One who does not possess qualities, but thinks that he possesses qualities, this is wrong pride. The treatises say that there are nine types of pride, namely the aspect of pride that thinks "I am the best," the aspect of pride that thinks "I am equal to them," and the aspect of pride that thinks "I am not as good as them."
