At that time, the accumulations of virtue are called giving. That is to say, the result is great enjoyment. Such giving is either for the benefit of oneself and others, or for the benefit of both, or giving not for the benefit of both. In this regard, if someone who has not separated from desire, or an ordinary person who has not separated from desire, makes offerings to a stupa, it is only for his own benefit because it does not benefit others. If a noble one who has separated from desire gives to other sentient beings, that giving is for the benefit of others because it benefits them, but not for his own benefit because he has completely transcended the ground of ripening, except for experiencing it in the present dharma. If a noble one who has separated from desire, or an ordinary person who has not separated from desire, gives to other sentient beings, then that giving is for the benefit of both. If a noble one who has separated from desire gives to a stupa, that giving is not for the benefit of both, except for experiencing it in the present dharma, because he gives only out of respect and gratitude. The so-called result of giving is great enjoyment, which is a general explanation. The difference lies in the difference between the giver, the object, and the field of merit. Now, let's first talk about the excellence of the giver in terms of faith and so on. The excellence of the giver lies in possessing many qualities such as faith, discipline, and learning. The giving of such a giver, because of its excellence, will make the result of giving even more excellent. Such a giver gives with respect and so on. Giving with respect, with one's own hands, in a timely manner, and without harming others. Therefore, one can obtain great respect, timely and without interruption. Therefore, the giving of such a giver will successively produce four differences: one can obtain respect, one can generate faith in great enjoyment, one can obtain timely enjoyment without delay, one can

Among the eight kinds of giving that are mentioned, the eighth, should be added as "excluding is superior." What is the eighth? It is giving to those who are close, giving out of fear, giving for oneself, giving because it will be given to oneself, giving because one's own parents and ancestors gave, giving for the sake of heaven, giving for the sake of fame, giving for the sake of the adornment of the mind, for the sake of the equipment of the mind, for the sake of the accumulation of yoga, and giving in order to obtain the supreme purpose. Among these, giving to those who are close is when people of the past said, "To those who come close at dawn, give alms." Giving out of fear is when one sees someone manifestly doing away with (evil deeds) and says that one will give holy things. The rest are not explained separately because they are easy to understand. In the sutras it says that if one gives to someone who has entered the stream-entry fruit, the ripening is immeasurable. Even more so, giving to a stream-enterer is immeasurable. Although it is widely spoken of in the sutras, there are also: parents, the sick, dharma speakers, the last existence, bodhisattvas, whether noble or not, giving is immeasurable. These five, although they are ordinary beings, from the point of view of the result, giving is immeasurable. Among them, the so-called bodhisattva of the last existence refers to the last lifetime. Among the four kinds of fields, if one wants to see which side the dharma speaker belongs to, then he is the one who gives the eye of wisdom to those who are blinded by ignorance, and fully shows what is in accordance and not in accordance, and also manifests the undefiled dharmakaya. In short, because he does all the deeds of the Buddha, he is a great spiritual friend, and should be viewed from the perspective of benefit. If you want to understand the weight of actions, in short, you should know six causes, namely: result, field, basis, combination, mind, and thought. From the smallness and greatness of these, actions are also small and great. The so-called result refers to what is done after something has been done. The so-called field refers to where one does beneficial and harmful things. The basis
