Those are the heroes. Those great self-natured ones, although they have attained all the supreme achievements, yet because of compassion, they are controlled by others, and therefore, without any reason, they dwell before all sentient beings without arrogance, as if they were themselves. They endure all the harm done by sentient beings, and they also take upon themselves all the hardships. Thus, the action of transforming names that is spoken of, that is the very birth of a man in Jambudvipa. Thinking of the manifest Buddha, from thought arises a hundred kalpas, which propel one into bodies. The people of Jambudvipa are sharp-witted, therefore Bodhisattvas also propel the action of ripening names in Jambudvipa itself, but not in other places. It is the very body of a man, not the body of a woman, the teacher is manifest, and with the thought focused on the Buddha, one is propelled into a hundred kalpas, not into many. That action arises from thought, not from hearing, nor from meditation. The Bhagavan Shakyamuni, through diligent effort, reversed nine times, and was propelled into ninety-one kalpas. Therefore, it is said thus: 'Householder, from here ninety-one kalpas ago, I truly remember, and for any lineage, for the sake of giving food, whatever is unpleasant or harmful, I do not perceive.' Thus he spoke, from that time onwards, because of the self-nature of remembering past lives. Those names, each one, also arises from a hundred merits. What is the measure of merit? Some say, 'How much is the measure of the enjoyment and fruition of all sentient beings, except for the near Bodhisattvas?' Thus they say. Some say, 'Through the power of the actions of all sentient beings, the achievement of the three thousand worlds is attained.' Thus they say. Some say, 'The measure of that is known only by the Buddha himself.' Thus they say. Again, when the Bhagavan became a Bodhisattva, how many Buddhas did he attend and serve? In the first of countless kalpas, he attended and served seventy-five thousand Buddhas. In the second, he attended and served seventy-six thousand Buddhas. In the third, he attended and served seventy-seven thousand Buddhas.

I was venerated. At the end of which countless aeons will which Buddha appear? Reversing the order, in sequence: All-Seeing, Lamp, Jewel Crest. They will appear at the end of three countless aeons. The first countless aeon is completed as the perfectly enlightened Buddha Jewel Crest. The second is completed as the Bhagavan Lamp Maker. The third is completed as the Thus-Gone One All-Seeing. Of all of them, the first is Shakyamuni. In the past, when the perfectly enlightened Buddha named Shakyamuni was a Bodhisattva, he made the aspiration, 'May I also become a Buddha in this very form.' That was the first aspiration he made. Moreover, this occurred during the time of strife, and his teachings will likewise endure until the end of a thousand years. Furthermore, in which stages does a Bodhisattva perfect the perfections? Giving to all and everything, the perfection of generosity is completed through the generosity of compassion. To all, even eyes and feet, without expecting any return, simply giving with compassion, in that way, the perfection of generosity is fully completed. Even if limbs are severed while still attached to desire, without wavering at all, this is the perfection of discipline and patience. When the Bhagavan became a Bodhisattva, he perfected diligence by praising the Star King. The Thus-Gone One Star King, not having attained absorption in the fire element in a cave, stood on one foot and praised: 'Such an excellent being as you, other great ascetics do not exist on the heavenly earth. They are not in this world, nor in the abode of Vaishravana. They are not in the palaces of the gods, nor in excellent places, nor in any direction. By searching the entire earth covered with mountains and forests, where could they be found?' At the time of praising with this one verse, both perfections of diligence were fully completed. Aeon

It is also said that it can dispel nine kinds of obstacles. Without interruption, with the wisdom of Samadhi, immediately upon first attaining Bodhi, the Vajra-like Samadhi is complete with both Samadhi and the Perfection of Wisdom. Each becomes a Paramita through its own perfect Paramita. The Sutra says that the basis of merit arising from generosity, the basis of merit arising from discipline, and the basis of merit arising from meditation are the three bases of merit. How are these three the bases of merit? Merit and the basis of merit, how are the three like the path of karma? These three are each merit, therefore they are the basis of merit. For example, they are both karma and the path of karma, or only the path of karma, so it is said to be the path of karma. Among them, for the time being, the basis of merit arising from generosity, the actions of body and speech are all three forms. The mind that is completely defiled by this is merit and action. The dharmas that arise together with this are only merit. What arises from discipline is also only the action of body and speech, which is in three forms. The loving-kindness arising from meditation is the basis of merit. Because through the door of loving-kindness, the mind that corresponds to it manifests. The mind that arises together with this is discipline and meritorious action. The others that arise together with this are only merit. What is called generosity? What should be given? Is that also generosity? Here, whoever gives by giving. Here, it is not desirable to give out of fear, expectation of return, attachment, etc., therefore, in order to distinguish, it is said: with the desire to offer and benefit others. Whoever gives with the intention of offering and benefiting others. What is meant by whoever gives by giving? Body and speech are accompanied by supplication. What is supplication? The collection of mind and mental factors, with which one initiates supplication. Here it is said: When a person of good heart gives away his own possessions.
