Because it can truly subdue. What are the three purities mentioned in the sutras? Those are: Purity of all three, excellent conduct is three. All means that the excellent conduct of the body is the pure body. All means that the excellent conduct of speech and mind is pure speech and mind, until that time, or permanently abandoning the defilement of bad conduct. Such teaching is to distinguish from the subduing of evil paths and those who are superstitious about cleanliness. There are three kinds of bad conduct. Among them: The actions of the body and so on are not virtuous, and are established as three kinds of evil deeds. The non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind are, in order, the bad conduct of body, speech, and mind. Covetousness and other action names are also, the evil deeds of the mind are of three kinds. Although it is not the nature of action, there are three kinds of evil deeds of the mind, that is, the thought of the mind changes to other things, covetousness, harmful mind, and wrong view. The opposite is good conduct. The opposite of bad conduct is considered good conduct, that is, the actions of body, speech, and mind are virtuous, without covetousness, without harmful mind, and with correct views, etc. From this, after summarizing, the path of action is said to be ten, good and non-good as appropriate. After summarizing from those bad conduct and good conduct themselves, the path of action mentioned in the sutras is ten kinds, as appropriate, what arises from good conduct is virtuous action. The action of bad conduct is non-virtuous action. Among those paths of action, six non-virtuous ones are not form. The six non-virtuous actions, namely killing, taking what is not given, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle talk, etc., if others are made to do them, because there is no actual form, before being devoured by ghosts and gods, it is the nature of non-form. One is two kinds, that is, sexual misconduct, because one's self ultimately accomplishes it, it is always the nature of both form and non-form, if others are made to do it, then one will not be so happy. If those are also done, the six paths of action

Those also, when becoming self-nature, non-revealing form has two aspects. Killing at that very moment is also extremely twofold. If one dies later, it is solely non-revealing form. Among the paths of virtuous actions, the seven virtues are twofold. The precepts that are properly taken are dependent on revealing form, therefore the paths of action of the seven forms are definitely both revealing form and non-revealing form. Non-revealing form arises from meditative absorption. The discipline gathered by meditative absorption and uncontaminated discipline is called arising from meditative absorption, and those are solely non-revealing form because they depend only on the mind. Approaching is revealing form. Approaching the path of action is undoubtedly the nature of revealing form. That which is non-revealing form, if one engages in actions with intense afflictions or with great delight, then it becomes non-revealing form, otherwise it does not. From the opposite is the conclusion. The paths of action that are the opposite of approaching should be understood as the conclusion, and those are the nature of non-revealing form. Revealing form is uncertain; if one performs the path of action and then practices the Dharma in accordance with it, it becomes revealing form, otherwise it does not. In the sutra it is said: Monks, from killing to wrong view, there are three types: born from attachment, born from hatred, and born from ignorance. Among these, what is killing born from attachment like? And so on, it should be said. In this case, it is not that all paths of action are completed by attachment and so on, but the actions are born from the three roots. Those actions are born from the three roots of non-virtue, therefore it is said that way from the initial instigating words, that is not covetousness and so on. Among these, killing born from attachment is like this: for the sake of his body's limbs, or for the sake of play, or for the sake of wealth, or to completely protect oneself or a friend.

Killing for the sake of one's father. Born of hatred is like this: killing in order to obtain something only from that person. Born of ignorance is like this: if the king takes offerings and the recitation of Dharma as the standard, and executes enemies and the disobedient with the mind of Dharma, then the king will become a vessel of merit, as the saying goes. Taking what is not given, born of attachment, is that whoever needs something, they steal that thing. Born of hatred is to obtain something only from that person. Born of ignorance is like this: the king takes the recitation of Dharma as the standard and executes the disobedient with punishment. Adultery, born of attachment, is being completely attached to other people's wives, etc., or engaging in impure conduct for the sake of gain and respect, or to completely protect oneself and friends. Born of hatred is to commit adultery in order to vent resentment. Born of ignorance is like going to prostitutes in Persia and other places. Lying, etc., born of attachment and born of hatred are the same as before. Born of ignorance is as it is said: When the king is laughing, with women, at the time of taking a wife, and at the time of killing and plundering all wealth, there is no harm in lying, these five lies are not sinful. Saying this, and any lies that enter the ranks of wrong views, divisive speech that enters the ranks of wrong views, etc., are born of ignorance. If asked, how do greed, etc., arise from attachment, etc.? The answer is: What arises from the aftermath of that, greed, etc., arise from the three poisons. What arises as the aftermath of attachment is born of attachment. What arises as the aftermath of hatred is born of hatred. What arises as the aftermath of ignorance is born of ignorance. The paths of non-virtuous actions have been explained. What are the paths of virtuous actions? It is said: Virtuous actions, in their actions and results, arise from the absence of attachment, hatred, and ignorance. The paths of virtuous actions are initiated with a virtuous mind.
