The fault of is also the same. The karma of the body arises from hatred, and because it corresponds to a hateful mind, it is said to be a fault of the body. The faults of speech and mind are also the same. The karma of the body arises from desire, and because it corresponds to desire, it is said to be an impurity of the body. The impurities of speech and mind are also the same. From the distinctions of black and white, there are four types of karma. There is black karma that is black and ripens, there is white karma that is white and ripens, there is black and white karma that is black and white and ripens, and there is neither black nor white karma that is neither black nor white and ripens, which will cause all karma to be exhausted. Among them, non-virtue, the virtue belonging to the form realm and the desire realm, are respectively black, white, and both types of karma. To exhaust them, there is the uncontaminated karma. Non-virtuous karma is entirely black because it is afflicted. Its ripening is unpleasant, so its ripening is black. Virtue belonging to the form realm is entirely white because it is unmixed with non-virtue. Its ripening is pleasant, so its ripening is white. Virtue belonging to the desire realm is black and white because it is mixed with non-virtue. Its ripening is mixed, so its ripening is black and white. Uncontaminated karma has the power to exhaust and abandon these three types of karma. Because it is not afflicted, it is not black. Because there is no white ripening, it is not white. Because it does not belong to the three realms and is incompatible with entering, there is no ripening. Then, does all uncontaminated karma exhaust all three of these karmas? It is said: No. If asked: How is it not? (The answer:) The forbearance of Dharma that is free from desire, among the eight unobstructed paths, whichever of the twelve types of consciousness, exhausts black karma. In the path of seeing, whichever consciousness is among the four forbearances of Dharma-knowledge and the eight unobstructed paths that are free from desire for the desire realm, that is, those twelve types of consciousness, is the karma that exhausts black karma. Whichever is the ninth consciousness, that exhausts black and white karma. The desire of the desire realm

Whatever the mind thinks in the ninth uninterrupted path of detachment from desire is virtuous action and non-virtuous black action, which is to abandon the ninth kind of black and white action. White meditation is detached from desire, born from the uninterrupted path. From meditation to meditation, in the process of detachment from desire, what is the mind thinking in the ninth and final uninterrupted path? These four kinds of thoughts are to abandon white actions. Others are of two kinds: experiencing the results of hell and experiencing other desire realms. Other teachers say that experiencing the results of hell and experiencing the results of actions in the desire realm other than hell are black and black-and-white actions respectively. Because hell is the maturation of purely non-virtuous actions, for example, experiencing it is called black action. The desire realm other than that is the place where virtuous and non-virtuous actions mature, so experiencing it is called black-and-white action. Others say that what is abandoned by seeing is black action. Others say that what is abandoned by seeing is black because it is not mixed with virtue. Others born from the desire realm are black-and-white actions. Other actions performed in the desire realm are black-and-white actions. What else is there besides that? It is what is abandoned by cultivation, which is virtuous and non-virtuous. The sutra says that there are three "bearable ones": the bearable body, the bearable speech, and the bearable mind. For these, the body and speech actions of the non-learner are the bearable body and speech. The mind itself of the non-learner is the bearable mind, but not the action of the mind. Why? Because the mind is the ultimate bearable one, and it is inferred through the two doors of body and speech. Furthermore, it is bearable in the sense of abandonment, and the actions of body and speech are the nature of abandonment. Because the mind has no non-manifestation, it is not the action of the mind, therefore the mind is abandonment, so it is called bearable. Why is it only the non-learner, and not others? Because an Arhat has no expression of all afflictions.
