Likewise, until the Akanishtha beings whose lifespan is sixteen thousand kalpas, how many yojanas is the measure of their bodies? The formless realm's thousands of kalpas are, exceeding twenty more. The lifespan of those born in the Sphere of Infinite Space is twenty thousand kalpas. Those born in the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness exceed that by twenty thousand kalpas. Those born in the Sphere of Nothingness exceed that by twenty thousand kalpas. Those born in the Sphere of Neither Perception nor Non-Perception exceed that by twenty thousand kalpas. Thus, the measure of life is twenty thousand kalpas, forty thousand kalpas, sixty thousand kalpas, and eighty thousand kalpas, in that order. Here, it should be understood which kalpa it is. Is it an instant kalpa, a destruction kalpa, a formation kalpa, or a great kalpa? The gods of Clear Light and so on are the great kalpa, and the one below it is half. The lifespan of the gods of Clear Light and so on should be understood as a great kalpa. The measure of life of those below it, such as the Great Brahma, is established by taking half of the great kalpa as a kalpa. How is it? Whether it is the twenty kalpas between the formation of the world, the twenty kalpas between formation and abiding, or the twenty kalpas between destruction, these sixty intermediate kalpas are said to be half and two kalpas of the Great Brahma. Thus, taking the forty kalpas between great kalpas as kalpas, those are said to be the measure of life. Now, the beings of the lower realms will be spoken of, and a brief explanation will be given. The lifespan of the desire realm gods is the same as the days and nights, and it is the same in the Reviving hells and so on in order. How much lifespan was spoken of for those six gods, it is the same as the days and nights of the six hells of Reviving, Black Line, Crushing, Crying, Great Crying, and Heat, in that order, and should be understood.
