Grak. Here, it is considered that the five aggregates of the twelve links of dependent origination are interconnected without interruption in the three lifetimes. If all the limbs have all five aggregates, why are only phenomena such as ignorance proclaimed? Because it is proclaimed from the main limb itself. When ignorance is the main one, it is said to be ignorance. When actions are the main ones, they are actions. Similarly, when old age and death are the main ones, it goes up to old age and death. There is no fault. Again, why is it said to be twelve links in the sutras, and what is dependent origination in the Vibhanga? It is said to be all conditioned dharmas. In the sutras, it is called sentient beings. In the Vibhanga, it is called sentient and non-sentient beings. Again, why does the sutra only speak of sentient beings? To reverse ignorance about the beginning, end, and middle. To reverse ignorance about the past end, ignorance and action are taught. To reverse ignorance about the future end, birth, old age, and death are taught. To reverse ignorance about the middle end, consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, and existence are taught. Therefore, it is three lifetimes. Moreover, dependent origination should be understood as being of the nature of three things: afflictions, karma, and basis. Among them, the three afflictions are ignorance, craving, and grasping. The two karmas are the links of action and existence, which are the nature of karma. The seven bases are consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, birth, old age, and death. The seven links are called bases because they are the support for karma and afflictions. How are the seven links the basis? Likewise, they are also the result. The seven links themselves become the result. The remaining five are the cause because they are of the nature of karma and afflictions. Again, why are the five bases and the two afflictions distinct? Therefore, the cause and effect in the middle are extensively taught, and because the two are distinct, the future time

If the result is brief, and the cause of the past is shown through one affliction, then the cause and effect of the two are summarized as: From the inference of the middle, the cause of the middle itself is the cause of both the prior and later ends, and the result is also not explained by extensive inference. Also, do not make meaningless efforts. If it is said that dependent origination is exhausted in only twelve branches, then now, because the cause of ignorance is not shown, cyclic existence becomes having a beginning. Because the result of aging and death is not shown, it also becomes having an end. Or else, another branch must be supplemented, and in that case, there would be no end. Why is it not necessary to supplement? Because the Blessed One said: From affliction, affliction arises, Action itself from that, From that, basis and affliction arise, This is the system of the limb of existence. It has been shown. From affliction, affliction arises, namely, craving arises from grasping. From affliction, action arises, namely, grasping arises from craving, and volitions arise from ignorance. From action, basis arises, namely, consciousness arises from volitions, and birth arises from existence. From basis, basis arises, namely, from consciousness, name and form up to feeling from contact, and from birth up to aging and death. From basis, affliction arises, namely, craving arises from feeling. Because of the system of the limbs of existence, in that way, the nature of affliction, ignorance, is also shown to arise from a basis or affliction, and from the basis that touches aging and death, affliction also arises. Therefore, there is no need to supplement even a little to this. In that way, this great mass of suffering will truly arise. If it is not like that, what is the use of this? The Blessed One said: Monks, I will teach you dependent origination and the Dharma of dependent origination. What is the difference between these? This cause is dependent origination, and dependent origination is considered the result. The limb that has become the cause arises from this, therefore it is dependent origination. Having become the result
