Etc. Among the four abodes of sentient beings, it should be understood. The abodes of those born from eggs, those born from wombs, those born from moisture, and those born by transformation. The term "birthplace" refers to the place where sentient beings are born in a common, mixed, and chaotic manner. What is born from eggs? Those sentient beings that are born from eggs, such as geese, cranes, peacocks, parrots, mountain partridges, and so on. What is born from the womb? Those sentient beings that are born from the womb, such as elephants, horses, donkeys, pigs, and so on. What is born from moisture? Those sentient beings that are born from the warmth and moisture of the elements, such as worms, ants, moths, butterflies, and so on. What is born by transformation? Those sentient beings that are born all at once with complete faculties, without defects, and with all limbs and parts complete. Therefore, because it is beautiful at birth, it is called transformation. For example, gods, hells, intermediate states, and so on. Furthermore, which beings have how many birthplaces? It is said: Humans and animals have four types. Among the four types of humans, those born from eggs are like this: Mountain rocks, and the two nearby mountain rocks were born from cranes; the thirty-two sons of the mother who holds mountain rocks; the five hundred sons of King Five-Taking. Those born from the womb are those of the present time. Those born from moisture are like this: Milk born from me, the beautiful one, the near beautiful one, the one with a garland of pearls, the one who raises mangoes, and so on. Those born by transformation are only those of the first kalpa. Animals also have four types, three of which are obvious. Those born by transformation are nagas and garudas, and so on. Hells and gods, as well as the intermediate state, are all born by transformation. All hells, as well as the gods, and the intermediate state, are all born by transformation. Ghosts are also born from the womb. The word "also" indicates that they are also born by transformation, such as the venerable great Maudgalyayana, who saw a female ghost.
