The things to be abandoned by cultivation are five. The grounds are the dhyanas and the eight formless ones, plus the desire realm, making nine. Among these, what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering is the co-nascent cause of what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering, up to what is to be abandoned by cultivation also being the co-nascent cause of what is to be abandoned by cultivation. Among these, those who act in the desire realm are those of the desire realm, and the grounds of the first dhyana are also those of the first dhyana, up to the ground of the peak of existence also being those of that ground itself, and not of others. These are not all, for example, the previously arisen ones. The previously arisen ones are the co-nascent cause of the later arisen and the unarisen ones. If it is said, "Does one's own ground become a co-nascent cause?" If that is asked, then it is certain that the contaminated is like that. The paths of the nine grounds are mutually, in terms of being called a co-nascent cause. The truths of the path of unobstructed liberation and special dhyana, and the four dhyanas and the three formless absorptions, are mutually co-nascent causes. Why? Because this is something that suddenly comes to those grounds, and because it is not possessed by the craving of that ground, it does not belong to that realm, therefore other grounds also become co-nascent causes of the same kind. That is, the same and the special are co-nascent causes, but they do not become small causes. For example, the forbearance of knowing the Dharma of suffering is also a special cause of its future ones, and up to the knowledge of non-arising. The knowledge of non-arising is the knowledge of non-arising itself, because there is no other special cause. The paths of seeing, cultivation, and no more learning are respectively three, two, and one. Among these, the path of dull faculties is the cause of medium and sharp faculties, and the path of sharp faculties is that of sharp faculties themselves. Similarly, the paths of faith-follower, faith-liberated, and time-liberated are respectively six, four, and two. The Dharma-follower and

The paths attained by seeing, and those liberated without conjunction with time, are three, two, and one. Furthermore, does only the path become a common cause for equal and differentiated shares? Answer: No. For worldly beings as well, what arises from union is the same. It becomes a cause for equality and differentiation, but not for smallness. What is meant by "like this"? Answer: Such as arising from hearing and thinking, etc. The qualities of union arising from hearing, thinking, and meditation also become causes for equality and differentiation, but not for smallness. For example, those arising from hearing that are practiced in the desire realm arise from attainment, and those arising from thinking. Those arising from thinking are those arising from thinking themselves, because there is no arising from meditation. Those arising from hearing that are practiced in the form realm arise from hearing and those arising from meditation, because there is no arising from thinking. Those arising from meditation are those arising from meditation themselves. Those are also different because of nine kinds of differences, the smallest of the small is all. The middle of the small is eight, the principle is like that. The cause of equal share has been explained. The corresponding cause is mind, etc., and what arises from mind. If that is the case, then those born at different times and in different continuums will also become corresponding causes to each other, which would be a fault. Although that is the case, the aspect and object must be the same. If that is the case, then looking at the crescent moon, etc., will also become that, which would be a fault. Therefore, like this, those with the same basis. Whatever mind and mental factors have the same basis, those are mutually corresponding causes. "Same" means not different. For example, the basis of eye consciousness, whatever the moment of the eye faculty is, the feeling, etc., that corresponds to that is also, and likewise, the moment of the mind faculty is also that of mind consciousness and those that correspond to that, should be understood up to that point. The cause of pervasive going will be spoken, pervasive going means afflicted, one's own ground.
